Duckie - I wondered the same thing - how did Lynette get to be such a good mom with a witch of a mother like that, indeed! That wicked woman. I would not want her holding my head as I puked up chemo, no way, no how. I'd take....no one before I'd take her!

I did love how Lynette hasn't told the rest her sad news. She wanted the focus to be on Gaby. That was sweet. And such a good friend to all too.

Edie......that was a shock but she was never a full fledged member of this housewives club. She always wanted in but didn't really have a place among the other 5 (Mary Alice being the 5th). So while that was a shocking ending, I must admit I won't miss Edie. Edie was so different than the Knots Landing character Nicollette Sheridan played (that would have been beloved Paige), that I just never liked her as Edie.

You're assuming she's dead.

True. I don't know, something just tells me she is. The writers want us to doubt she's dead. Which makes me believe she will be!

I think she's dead too, but I was SO taken aback by this plot I don't really know(I had NO idea it would be like that). The thing is, as I've thought about it, it makes more sense that's she dead. Her character has been destroyed this year, so there's really nothing left for her to do. She's been through every single man on Wisteria Lane(one of which is now married), and after the Carlos thing everyone would have known just how she is.

I can't believe Marc Cherry kept this plot under wraps. It has literally shocked everyone who watches this show, and I think it's the first time a major show-changing plot has not been spoiled.

The closing with Mary Alice:

Brent - I agree. Over on the IMDB Desperate Housewives board, fans keep mentioning the 7 year contracts given to all 5 main actresses and Nicollette S. is one of them. Although I've never considered her character to be the 5th wife (this title belongs to Mary Alice, IMHO). I guess if this is true - NS was meant to last 7 seasons - contracts can be broken? I also agree with you, Edie's character's was done. She only took center stage because Bree was out of town. Once Bree returned, Edie would have had to retreat to the shadows again.

Speaking of DH men, how many has she gone thru? I count Carl, Mike, Carlos and didn't she kiss Rex and/or Tom at a party once (we never saw it, it was just referred to later)?

Desperate Housewives
by Dave Anderson
May 20, 2007 - Getting Married Today
Well, they said the final scene would be a shocker and they were right. I am speechless. You know how much I love my Edie. Would it be too much to ask to have Carlos heroically and miraculously walk in during the very first scene this fall and save her? I do not want this show to go on without Nicollette Sheridan. Yes, Edie is not one of the four main housewives, but the show would not be the same without her. Soap operas have had people hang themselves and be saved at the last minute. Until I get a confirmation, I'm going to spend this entire summer believing Edie is not dead. Just call me DID — "Dave In Denial."

Except for that ending, I was very happy with this season finale episode. I thought it had the perfect Desperate Housewives blend of drama and comedy. I expected to be satisfied after seeing that departing co-executive producer Joe Keenan was one of the writers (along with fellow talented co-exec producer Kevin Murphy). Besides having the same job title for all those years of Frasier, Joe also co-wrote this season's instant classic "Bang" episode. So when I saw his name in the opening credits, I thought: "This is going to be good." What a wonderfully romantic ending-before-the-ending with Susan surprising Mike with the spur of the moment wedding in the woods, equipped with Gabrielle's minister (Steve Tyler) and a witness/maid of honor in Julie. Who knew Julie (Andrea Bowen) would have the funniest line in the episode? The minister to Susan and Mike: "Are you ready?" Julie: "Are you kidding? They've been dragging this thing out for three years." You could tell Mike was getting stressed out with all the wedding prep and trying to make extra money as a 24-hour "Ninja plumber" to give Susan the big wedding she wanted. Good for Susan for finally doing the right thing. I think it was Mike's "I'm not Ian" speech that hit home the most for her.

Marcia Cross indeed gave us a spoiler during that Letterman appearance weeks ago when she said Bree would return with a noticeable difference. One of you smart commenters suggested Bree would be faking a pregnancy to cover up the fact that her slutty daughter Danielle was pregnant with Edie's slutty nephew Austin's baby. How very Bree of Bree to go through so much trouble to avoid being the gossip talk of Wisteria Lane by hiding Danielle away so she'll never be seen by anyone until after "Bree’s" baby is born. And how very Orson of Orson to go along with the scam. I loved the scene when Orson helped Bree off with the fake pregnant belly and reminded her she'd need to switch to the 6-month version soon. Oh, Bree. Why do I know that the devilish Andrew will be the one to spoil the secret?

I had heard that Gaby and Carlos were going to hook up, but most of the stuff I read said Gaby was going to sleep with Carlos the night before her wedding to Victor, just to get it out of her system. I much preferred what actually happened. Both Gaby and Carlos were in miserable situations — Gaby overheard Victor and his dad B.J., I mean Milton (Mike Farrell) discussing how Gaby will be "bringing in the Latino vote" for his race for governor (against her will) and poor Carlos found out Edie was still on the pill. Speaking of that clichéd finding-the-birth-control-pills scene, like Edie would be that stupid as to keep them in her purse? I did laugh at the Carlos/paper boy Danny scene with Carlos going into Edie's purse to pay Danny and finding the pills. Danny (Ridge Canipe): "What's that?" Carlos: "It's birth control pills." Danny: "I'm gonna need cash." So it was good timing for Gaby and Carlos to passionately make out on that couch during the wedding reception — they both really needed it. You know Gaby won't stay married to Victor for very much longer.

In the grand tradition of casting the absolute best veteran actors in the business to play the parents of the characters, in came the fabulous Polly Bergen as Stella, Lynette's estranged alcoholic mother. I have been a fan of Polly's, without exaggeration, my entire life ever since my parents had me watch the Doris Day/James Garner film Move Over, Darling as a child (please rent it — you won't be sorry). Stella is a tough cookie, but I was glad Lynette didn't kick her out like she was planning on doing. Since Stella survived breast cancer when Lynette was 13, it will be a tough-love learning experience to have Stella around during the next three months of chemo. That line of Stella's was a real kick in the ass for Lynette: "You can fight me or you can fight the cancer. Trust me — you won't have the strength to do both." Stella bonding with Kayla was great, pumping her for info about Lynette and Rick. Stella got her groove back with that earlier line to Tom asking him not to tip the cab driver because "the SOB wouldn't let me smoke." It made me laugh and think of several of my aunts and friends of my own mother.

Other highlights:
— I enjoyed seeing TV Guide writer extraordinaire and my pal Mary Murphy in her cameo as one of the wedding guests. She was there to write her DH story for the magazine. Nice perk, Mary!
— I also enjoyed TV veteran K Callen as Edie's dead mother who appeared in a nightmare of Edie's. Every time I mention K (OK — it's only been once before), I make it a point to include that she played the woman who came out to Archie and Edith in one of my all-time favorite episodes of All in the Family as the lover of the deceased at the wake of cousin Liz. Best line was Archie's: "Liz...was a lez?" Here's hoping that the next time Edie speaks to her mama, they won't both be dead.
— I always like when they give Ricardo Antonio Chavira funny lines as Carlos and his best one was when he told Gaby he was planning on skipping the ceremony portion of her wedding: "I don't want to make a scene. You'll vow 'til death do us part' — I'll bust out laughing. People will stare." Gaby: "Reception starts at 4." Later, his line to Edie when he was attempting to make her pregnant was hilarious: "Nature is not on our side anymore. You're no spring chicken. Those eggs aren't exactly farm fresh." Edie: "OK — stop referring to me as poultry!"
— Nice to see Kathryn Joosten back as Mrs. McCluskey. Of course she and Ida (the two Gladys Kravitzes of Wisteria Lane) had to be the ones to overhear Carlos and Edie arguing at the wedding.

I hate that we have to wait almost four months until the next new episode. Until then, hang in there, Edie. I pray for your survival.

Well if you call him DID, David in Denial, just call me KID, Karan in Denial. She'll be back. I think Carlos will be the hero and will find her and save her. Then he and Gaby will want to get back together (after she has a problem divorcing "Mr Smooth" politics), Carlos will be stuck with Edie and won't be able to get out of that relationship and we'll have another unrequitted love affair.

Polly Bergen is going to be a great addition. I think she'll play the bad Mom until it comes right down to Lynette being very, very ill during chemo, then I think you'll see her soft side and wonder why you didn't like her in the first place.

I still like Orson. I loved when he said he'd wrap her dress in tissue!!!!

That was great. I liked him too(and as long as he's not acting real mysterious and creepy), I will. I do think this Bree plot is kind of silly though. I mean come on... she tried to accidentially kill her husband, then dates the man that kills her husband(unknowingly, but still), then sits by and does nothing while he kills himself. THEN she has a big drinking problem, etc., and dumps Andrew off in the middle of nowhere, and she kept Orson's secrets.

and yet she wants to keep a teen pregnancy secret? If this show takes place in the present day then it's not like it would be that shocking. I don't see how they keep it up for too long.

Oh yeah, and I hope the "Andrew running over Mama Solis" and Bree's coverup comes back to life soon.

Okay, who watched tonight's episode by now? Discuss away!

The Scavo kids! OMG.....

I actually felt somewhat sorry for Orson but Susan was right to react the way she did. And Bree was justified in her decision b/c let's face it, Orson doesn't come up to Rex's standards.....I've always had trouble liking Orson.

Cute dog though.......nice to see Gabby bonding with her, finally....

Tonight was awesome... and very intense(not to mention crowded with a lot going on). I agree with what you said about Orson and I am SO GLAD the producers just didn't forget because they've made Orson good(he was originally not going to be that way clearly, the plot last year with Gloria/Alma/Monique was significantly redone).

Was that Justine Bateman on the show? She's not looking too good imo.

Yes it was, and yes I agree. She looked OLD!

Edie had the best lines tonight... :roflmao:

"It's like having sex with PBS"

Gaby/Carlos/Ellie(Justine Bateman) was hilarious too, and especially Gaby getting the gay guys to seduce her. "DON'T wear that" "He looks like the lost member of Wham!"

Not caring much for Susan/Mike/Karl or Lynette/Tom/Kids

I find Bree a bit hypocritical in this whole Orson thing. Are we supposed to forget that Andrew killed Mama Solis while drunk driving and Bree totally covered it up?

Now I know this is different, but not by much.

Good show, not great, but many storylines setting up the season finale. You can tell, the pressure is building. LOL

Let's see - first word - KAYLA! Before I could say it, my daughter blurted out these words - that little biotch! Yes Lynette, that apple does not fall from the tree. Trust your instincts because well Tom is clueless in this department. But we fans always knew this little girl was trouble, from the get go. The damage was done before she ever met Lynette and Tom. Devious little kid.....

Susan with Karl. Why is it that he can reduce her to these silly antics. Bless Mike - he was honest. And in the end Karl admitted the plumber's alright after all. LOL

Edie's comment about Orson......hilarious and accurate. I think he needs to take some notes from the neighbors b/c I just don't see this actor/character as being straight! I never have.....must be his 'do....

Finally, I thought Justine Bateman was looking very old. Could not believe it! And for the life of me I don't know why this hairstyle is considered flattering! She should have just had her straight, not curled like that! It made her look so haggard and just flat out worn out. So what's the take on her character's real story? 'Cause we know she's not making tat's up in that spare room....LOL

Well it was in the preview for next week, Gaby discovers it while snooping apparently.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXPwXDhpt0Q

I can't believe Gaby bought that she was running a tattoo parlor. Those things are loud and she would have heard it. I thought she was smarter than that.

Oh and can I say it was refreshing to see a different plot besides a variation of "Carlos is blind"? Those were getting very tiring. I hope he gets his sight back soon.

2-hour Season Finale tonight!!!!!!

Someone is dying, multiple people are leaving, all the secrets of the season will be revealed(a lot of flashbacks with Katherine), most of the plots will be wrapped up in a nice bow, and a major twist in the final moments will change the series forever.
