Cantore should have some great eyewall footage in a couple of hours.

I went across the sound there to Drum Inlet once, seemed I needed a flat-bottomed boat to go across as I hit bottom about ten times.

To me, this is the scariest place to be tonight. Ocracoke village is a good distance from the ocean, although the elevation is about 9 feet. It does have a good growth of low vegetation around the homes and businesses. The harbor is named Silver Lake, and it provides a conduit for flooding from the Sound and Inlet.

Yep. Looking far healthier on IR than just a couple of hours ago.

Oh yeah. Amazing how well this is keeping its intensity with so much circulation over land. Especially amazing that it took in a big slug of dry air earlier but as that dry air was getting sucked in towards the eye it got walled off and never made it into the eye after all so it never made a dent in the intensity. Impressive and hard to figure out.

Comparing radar a hour ago to now and you would think it went under some rapid intensification.

It would've been quite interesting to see how intense this would be had it been 50-100 miles east given how well organized it is, and recent convective wrapping.
