we are just getting into the rain now. this storm has always been convectively blessed on its southeast side...so it needs to near and cross one's latitude for better rain and squall chances. i could see west central fl doing well wrt rainfall IF a feederband sets up correctly and that process may be underway now

Ok I finally have to ask. Multiple posters have expressed concerns about all the trees in Tallahassee. Do other parts of Florida not have trees? Are the trees in Tallahassee particularly vulnerable or something?

Reasonable question. Tons and tons of Pine trees, which will snap and go down in high wind. Not like live oaks that are well achored by their massive roots

Well the heritage Oaks will definitely come up. There root system isn't that deep and will leave massive holes . We had 13 in our yard during Ivan and believe me they all came down. But I think it all depends on how much rain they receive before the wind comes. Scariest poop I have ever heard when the big Oaks hit the ground during Ivan.

Here, we have had severe thunderstorms literally on top of us and not moving, flash flood warnings, and power outages...and that is in Atlanta (not associated with Idalia) because the cold front that was going to sweep this out is hung up over us and stationary. My power was out for an hour and just came back on.

Don't think she has enough time to make it to Cat.4, but it'll be close.

Why would you evac in Tally? Usually you should evac if you face surge, you run from water and hide from the winds. People evacuating in places that arent going to surge hurts the people who really need to evac.

Cat 3/4 winds can take roofs off of homes especially old ones and trailers. Toppled trees and tornadoes are big risks too. Why stay in a house in harms way is the question. If I was there I would have already sent my kids and parents somewhere else.

I feel like you are expressing fearmongering... The people that truly should be evacuating are those on the Florida coast, not those inland in Tallahassee. Comments like this do a disservice to who really are in trouble. This is a dangerous storm, let's be real about the impacts...

What is interesting is if you look at the loop posted above by CronkPSU...the lack of any lights in the big bend. That could be lack of population or just people left and didn't leave the lights on
