The unrealistic ridge for next week is now GONE on the last two runs of the GFS. It now has a very different look with no more blocking.

It still looks warm but now it could be potentially very wet.

Just woke up to another summer morning in North Bend with a temperature at 58 degrees.

I also am a cold weather fan, along with Snow_wizzard and Brennan. But alas, I also like a month or so in July where we have temperatures in the 80's and Sunny. That is the best Summer weather.

I think that something has defintely changed with the world's weather, whether it be nature, caused by the recent Tsunami in South East Asia, or whatever it may be, our weather is changing. The question is, where is it leading us ...

See how unreliable the models can be. They flip-flop constantly, yet people still use them to forecast everything. I think something needs to be done about the current technology available with the models. They are making fools out of forecasters everyday, since they flip-flop all the time.

Who knows, that ridge may return in future runs, we will just have to wait and see.

Well we hit a low of 29.4 degrees, still plenty of frost in the shade right now, but the current temp as of 9:20AM is 36.9 degrees under clear skies.

This has truly been a remarkable month! Here in the LK Goodwin area, 16 of the last 18 days have been at or below freezing for lows. Also the fact that up until just a couple of days ago, we were having below freezing temps for 14hrs or so at night, with only around 10hrs of above freezing. I walked across the big pond at work this morning, and even jumping up and down couldn't even get it to crack a little! Very thick ice!! YET I am thinking about going out jetskiing today on the lake I live on (not frozen  ) VERY ODD!!! Summer and winter at the same time in Feb!!!

R-Dub that is astonishing that the ice is that thick! You are certainly correct that we have seen some essense of every season this month. Truly remakable!

Kudos to TT...he never bought off on that ridge. I feel like an idiot. I am the one always trumpeting the virtues of using past history as a guide to making predictions. Past history is emphatic that March would be active, and now guess what? It appears that is going to be the case. These last two runs show we could get drenched in the 9 - 12 day period.

The extreme variability in the conditions this morning is beyond belief! At the time TT had 58 in North Bend, we were shivering at 28 in Covingotn. That is a 30 degree difference in about 10 miles (as the crow flies). WOW!!! Another very interesting thing happended this morning. The east wind gradient was just enough to bring drier air to the Covington, East Hill, Maple Valley area, which kept the skies clear and allowed the temps to drop quite low again. Shortly after sunrise the heating caused by the sun made the wind shift to west, which brouhgt in the fog and low clouds. The absolute best of both worlds, if you like cold! This was an excellent example of a diurnal surface pressure change. That can only happen when the offshore pressure gradient is JUST right.

Pretty wild temperatures this morning.

We are now up to 63 degrees already... its not even 10 a.m.!!

Crystal clear skies.

Glad to see the GFS coming around to what should be a wet March.

Another awesome morning with clear, blue skies!! Already 47F outside and it's only 10am! Expect afternoon high temperatures in the 60s over a majority of Western Washington...enjoy because things are about to change. I know I'm spending the entire day outside.

This week looks fairly wet...nothing astounding, but definitely a change from the past two, three weeks. The current system riding up from the south is shreading apart thanks to our enormous ridge of high pressure. The Monday/Monday night system will continue to eat away the ridge, but even that system looks fairly weak. Tuesday/Tuesday night has a little more punch and should produce a decent amount of widespread rain, mountain snow. Early indications suggest another system on Thursday, but we'll have to wait on that one.

As for the extended, latest GFS models have severely flip-flopped from the past few days...which makes the confidence very low. They suggest a very wet pattern evolving the beginning, middle of next week. This is alot different than the perfect sunshine, afternoon high temperatures in the 70s of the past few days. We'll have to see. I haven't seen the European or Canadian models...how are their agreements?

Everyone enjoy the sun today! I'm gonna do a little homework this morning and then it's outside for the rest of the day...it's pretty awesome that the sun doesn't go down till after 6pm.

Anthony...You sound like one dedicated dude! You have spent a lot of time on homework this weekend. I would bet most people your age have done nothing but goof off.

TT...63? Incredible. We are still at 40. This month has been a TRIP! We will probably not see another Feb like this for a LONG time, if ever....

Snow_Wizzard,

Trust me dude, it's pretty tough to keep up with homework your second semester of senior year. With college apps out of the way, you really have no motivation. But I know I must keep my grades up! lol.

In about fifteen minutes, I'm going outside to do some yardwork...my dad's making me mow the lawn. I've never mowed the lawn in February before, but the grass has grown alot the past three weeks.

Already 52F outside and it's only 11am. Perfect, clear blue skies. You really can't beat this weather!! I just talked to my aunt who lives in Brooklyn, New York and they are gearing up for a major winter storm tomorrow night. Honestly, I really wanted snow/arctic cold for awhile...but now that it's almost March and we've had such awesome weather, I don't want it anymore. I say bring on Summer!! lol.

A lot of people share your wishes for winter to be done and for summer to get here. It certainly looks like a lot of people could be quite disappointed with March. It looks like we could see a lot of gloomy weather again. Let us hope we can mix in enough cold air to get some good snow in the mountains with all of this.

The leading edge of the cloud band just got here...an abrupt line, where it goes from clear to pretty thick clouds. The change has begun!

The analogs have been showing a strong correlation to 1968, 1970, and 1984 the past several days. Interesting to note those years all had abnormal cold spells in April. They also were years that had big winters next time around...

hey TT I think you need to relocate your Thermometer so that the sun is not pounding right on it... I'm not sure if you know this but your thermometer is suppose to be in the shade where the sun cannot shine directly on it... LOL... Just kidding. Pretty warm weather there...

Hi all, and good sunny afternoon!

Just took a look at 6z and 12z GFS, and guess what. It appears that the big ridge that I mentioned about over last few days...is completely gone. So 28th through about the 5th looks wet at times, but nothing to overly heavy. Then 6th through about the 8th, we may get a break from rain, before having what looks to be a very wet pattern in the extened period through 384hrs.

Wow, I think I'm forgetting that it's only February 27...and not the beginning of June. I also forgot how low the sun angle is...definitely wasn't worth putting sun tan lotion on. I was hoping I would get a few rays, but once the high clouds moved in...the sun became very filtered and the temperature dropped from 62F to 55F. The weather has really gone downhill the past hour or so. Too bad. But like I said, it is February...what do you expect?! lol.

I mowed the lawn and it was pretty tough...the grass was abnormally thick. Very surprised. Man, I pray that large ridge of high pressure does develop in the middle of March. I really like this sun/warm weather. It puts me in a better mood.

Well that does it!!! I WANT THIS WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WINTER!!!! I just got off the lake, it was so warm, I had to take off the wet suit and just ride around wearing shorts!!!!! This weather is unbelievable. Last year I didn't get out on my jetski until mid April, just can't believe its Feb. 27th! First time my bright white legs have seen the sun since last Aug!!!!

Here is the pic to prove I was out on the lake, unbelievable!! Just this morning I was walking across a frozen pond then by late morning I was out jetskiing. I wasn't the only one either, lots of fishermen, and several other jetskiiers out enjoying this weather 8-)

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/golfer96_ ... pg&.src=ph

Currently 60.2 degrees!!!

Can you tell I am enjoying this weather

BTW those were awesome pics Andy, almost missed them!
Keep them coming!! 8-)

18z GFS still indicating a very showery pattern through the middle of March with maybe a weak high pressure system for the 8th - 10th time frame. Looks kinda mild though, as 500MB vorticity heights are generally in the upper 550`sDM. Though for the 7th through about the 13th...heights are in the 570 to 576 range. So could possible see mid 70`s during this time. -- Andy
