He quickly is becoming my favorite here in the metro... very impressed with him. Was interesting to see him discuss the possibility tonight..of either rain or snow. Will be interesting to see what pans out.

ya I liked it to,,he is good at what he does,I got all excited when his model went from thunder storms to snow storm!!!!

One thing about the 00Z GFS run, on the 1-2nd time frame, it still has precip over north Texas with temps in the 30's...so we will see

I'm tired of these events that are "questionable"..you know, is it going to be a cold rain, or 4 inches of snow?

I just want the bottam to fall out and be snowed in all week...

Here is the McCauley video we are talking about for those who missed it or could not see it.

Thoughts?

Portastrom, sorry dude, looks like you still only get rain with both forecasts.

Awesome little piece by him, it's just too bad Dale Hansen had to come and ruin it.

Yeah, too bad he is only part time. He is the weekend forecaster and occasionally fills in during the week. He is the best one we have in DFW IMO.

I was wondering why he wasn't on more but I don't watch every night so wasn't really sure. Shame.. I really enjoy his sense of humor on twitter too.
I WISH some station would have a website like alabamawx.com As I said I still read it fairly often..and even e-mail Spann concerning if he knew of any sites or such for the metroplex and he said that he had tried to get some people interested in a project like that but noone was interested or thought it was too much work. Its a shame..but it did lead me to finding this site.

I completely agree MSUDawg, I just moved here from Ttown to go to school and James, JB and all the abc 33/40 crew are awsome and I still read alabamawx everyday hah. They're the best during severe weather season hands down!

My appetitie for winter weather was what, and I assume most others, led to this forum. Now I am on it all the time. Probably too much. Its ok though. Winter is not long around here and I hate the heat so I wont be heard from April until September. Need me some snow soon or I am going to be pissed!

Khou does have something like that in Houston. But in general you would never have the personal touch here like you would in Alabama considering it's a major market. More peeps in DFW than the entire state of Alabama. Just consider yourself lucky that the texas forum is one of the most popular forums on storm 2k during the winter the last two years or so.

Send some emails to Wfaa they're owned by Belo Corp just like khou, maybe they'll start something. I can't imagine Pete Delkus wouldn't want his face plastered on another website.

Of course who needs the tv mets when we have pro mets like wxman57, wall cloud and txagwxman.

I watched the clip of Mr. McCauley above. He is very good!!! May need to contact powers that be in Houston and see if we can't get him moved down here!! :cheesy: :cheesy:
Meanwhile, as he put it, kind of boring weather, if you like it cool to cold(of course that depends on one's perspective). Still looking to be an interesting weather watching time for the next few weeks.

Until we can get that ridge to align itself further west ... our (Texas) weather will be rather boring compared to our friends to the East. Regardless, the Portastorm Weather Center will be issuing a statement later today after the 12z runs have finished. Stay tuned! :cheesy:

That pattern above is remarkably similar to the 1993 Storm of the Century pattern.

Haha; I have to admit, I was still in momma's tummy during the '93 storm. What kind of air was it able to tap into? I know someone on another board said houston got down in to the mid 20's, which for march is pretty robust.

By the way for those of you jumping off the cliff last night after the 0z GFS run came out, you should look at the 6z GFS run around 240 hours. Snowmageddon for Texas is back!

There was thunder snow in E TX as the surface low strengthened rapidly offshore of LA.

I had already been forecasting here in Houston for 13 years back then. I remember when the model forecasts came out a couple of days before the event (we didn't have 16 day models then, just 1 model out to 48hrs). We looked at the "hurricane" in the Gulf that was forecast and looked at each other and asked "could this really happen?" It did. A "West Gulf Low" developed south of the LA coast. The low had sustained winds of 40-50 kts with gusts to hurricane force. Seas 30-40 feet. To its east was a squall line that produced 100+ mph winds across the eastern Gulf and into the Florida peninsula. To its north was snow - heavy snow along the Gulf Coast, particularly along the FL panhandle. Heavy snow in the TN Valley. Then it moved up the East Coast and wreaked havoc there.

Now I'm not saying we're looking at such an event across the Gulf this time, but we could see a low develop in the Gulf that could bring snow down to the coast, and likely another big storm for the East Coast.

This is only a possibility at this time - it's not my forecast yet.

This unfortunately has caused us to miss out on a few opportunities over the next few days, with shortwaves coming down out of the northwest flow. They're coming together too far east for those storms to have an impact around here. We either need the ridge to align itself further west, like you said, or get something to cut underneath.

Also, keep an eye on another stratospheric warming event forecast to unfold over the next 7-10 days. That is probably the trigger for this arctic outbreak for early February.
