The 12Z Canadian also is suggesting a strong Arctic front arriving next weekend while a potent short wave/upper low drops S into the Desert SW after the cold air arrives across Texas.

The 12Z GEFS (ensemble mean) also has a short wave/upper low crossing Mexico next Sunday into Monday with the 500mb anomalies in agreement of a Western/Central trough, so the various solutions may have some merit.

:uarrow: Agreed, I don't know about the cold but there's been strong evidence since a few days ago a major headlining storm system may be in the works. MJO is moving into the phases for one, 7-8-1 which so far has been quiet up until now.

Gonna step out on my thin met limb and say its going to be a cold January. Joining the cold camp. Also take note guys, maybe im super late to the party, but check out the region with warm water near Alaska. Stare at it during the runs and youll notice that it is CONSTANTLY trying to poke up a ridge unless a stron Low pressure comes in and beats it down. Even then, you can tell its trying to 'amplify' against it a bit. Its constant. When no low pressure comes into the region, BOOM it pops up. Liked seeing the 1068 on the models, i believe once in 2011 we saw 1072 once but not in the CONUS. Something is coming down the pipe for sure. Maybe we can get the snow pack up in the Plains to help deepen the cold air as well.

Also, going back a couple pages while you guys were talking history, one major part of history for Missouri City, Tx was the founder of the city convinced many settlers to come down here from Missouri to escape the cold weather. Well during their first winter, they had a very cold winter which included a snowstorm that brought 14 inches of snow. I THINK it was 1895 but im not entirely sure. I did a quick google search but found nothing.

Glad to see everyone excited about the upcoming cold. Another project of mine, to get my new weather center to the top of my garage sometime this week for more accurate wind readings.

Looking to get a weather center for my house. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good one that's reasonably priced?

I got an Acurite station, (could not afford expensive ones). Seems to be fairly accurate and I also got an internet bridge so I can monitor my conditions anywhere.. including a smartphone app. Heck I never even look at the actual indoor display anymore. They have a special going on right now. Great reviews as well.

12z Euro has the look of doing something wild too, run isn't finished. 1055+ coming down the eastern flank of the Canadian rockies into the US plains with -40C displaced on the move.

The 12Z Euro solution offers a classic omega blocking pattern. It is also note worthy that a Euro is continuing to advertise a deep trough into the Inter Mountain West and Plains. There are also hints of additional short wave/upper air disturbances diving S along the western side of the trough as sub tropical jet activity moves toward the Baja Region.

The end of the 12:00 GFS run has some very cold air marching down the plains. :cold:

Both the GFS and Euro in some form or fashion have shown hardship cold in the northern plains and Midwest. They've been waffling for the southern tier but unpleasant cold has been advertised by the guidance for an area that's probably sick of it by now. More model tracking days ahead! All aboard the fun train.

The Heat Miser spoke and let us know that there is nothing winter weather-wise coming to Texas anytime soon. :D
