Yeah Kyle. I was watching Fox 8 out of New Orleans. They were using a black depiction for those southeasterly cloud tops rotating into the center. That’s a kick to Intensify.

Look at that pin-hole eye!! Even with those super cold tops surrounding it, that "squashed" appearance on its south side seems to get increasingly pronounced. Quite odd. Meanwhile Ida's pressure MUST be falling like a rock now

Ominous for our future. You can google the topic, its very alarming. The skill to make these things has retired or the plants went oversea's. Hurricane hunters are not new aircraft.

C-130s are still produced right here in the USA, and the WC-130Js joined the fleet in 2005. These aren't relics of the 1960s...

Other than our desire to stay up all night tracking, does it really matter if there is a 6 hour gap at this point? Anyone who was going to evac has already made that decision before going to bed tonight. Tomorrow is too late to do anything.

An explosion of extremely cold cloud tops is currently wrapping around the eye.

She's currently in arguably the best conditions in the Atlantic. If she's going to take off, now is the time.

The most important part of tracking missions no matter what storm is the data collected can be used to improve models and planning for future storms.

Longer loop, she is looking mean and angry indeed, possible the plane is going to find a much stronger hurricane when they are back out there later tonight.

I just saw a super high res long loop. It’s mostly East of the track but is a spinning entity that sometimes jogs a bit west. It shouldn’t stay that way for more than a couple hours before wobbling back. I just hope it doesn’t find a NNW wobble it likes more. I lived in the Bayou for over 3 years after Katrina and have friends and family down there. No one alive will have seen anything like this down there. Thinking Caminada storm in the late 1800’s that killed all those people. They still do plays (theater) in Lockport. Shell is the historian, and the track wouldn’t be the same. But the impacts?

Well the B-1 and B-2 Bombers, and F-15's have serious issues right now

I am more inclined to believe its because the 53rd had to relocate to San Antonio today and the logistics for that probably took alot of time and people are tired.

Next Air Force hurricane hunter recon scheduled to arrive in center of Hurricane Ida at 3:30am CDT. Scheduled to take off at 1:15am CDT. Next NOAA P-3 mission is an 8hr research mission that departs from Lakeland, FL at 3am CDT. From "Plan of the Day": https://nhc.noaa.gov/recon.php

And to think this is only the beginning of peak season. I fear what awaits us later on this month.

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

Took a bit longer than expected, but looks like she's finally taking off.

Might be pragmatic to modify the "plan of the day" given what's going on.

Dead calm evening here in Pass Christian. Only thing moving outside are the bugs. Convection is really concentrated around Ida's eye. Looks to be intensifying at a good clip. Should be Cat-3 by morning.....MGC

Let’s not forget those east of NO. Slidell, Bay St Louis, Gulfport . . Etc. Granted NO is the largest and a great point of reference, but there are many others in other places that any change in track can affect also.

Watching the eye seal off with extremely cold cloud tops is mesmerizing…the Loop Current is working it’s magic on Ida now… :double:
