Re: Florida Weather Thread: Cool shot coming!
This was a long-lasting cold front. Big broad trough bellied down on us all week.
Warm sun still in calm spot on back deck.

Looking way out at the long-range GFS, it continues to bring trough after trough through the Eastern CONUS with a REX-block over the Western CONUS. With this pattern, looks like below normal temperatures for Florida will continue for November and even into early December.
It wouldn't surprise me if this long-wave pattern reverses though in several weeks which may create above normal temperatures for Florida and across the SE CONUS. These things *usually* are cyclical. That means it wouldn't surpise me that while Thanksgiving is relatively cool across Florida, Christmas may be alot warmer.

Wasn't there a similar pattern back in 2006....
November 2006 averaged 73.0 deg in Miami....1.4 below normal. December 2006 averaged 74.4 deg. 4.5 above normal! Coolest November temp was 45 deg..coolest December temp was 56, and that wasn't until 12/27!
The 2006 November cold wave was quite a bit colder than the current one we have been experiencing....high temp/low temp data from Miami International from 2006:
11/19 72 56
11/20 65 56
11/21 63 50
11/22 70 45
11/23 72 53
11/24 76 56

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Cool shot coming!
Hey ya'll. I have december 1-9th off and I was wondering if you know what the temps will be in clearwater during that time and where i need to go to get some warm sun here in fl how far south do i need to go? I saw how the gfs said early december maybe cold. That is really upsetting to me as i am going through the winter blues and need some beach weather. Thanks in advance. robbielyn

49 is cold by miami standards but that would be welcomed here in spring hill where we saw temps in the twenty's. it is really cold this time of year. Last year we were in the 80's and had very few cold fronts. This year it's done a complete flip. that is sad to say the least.

Yeah, gatorcane, a cool spell early on with these weird shoulder season swings can be followed by a rebound of warm later on.
Zero rain here lately. Had to water the citrus which never had any tropical systems this year and are abundant with fruit. Good Valencia orange crop this year and red grapefruit.

Re: Re:
Technically the 'offical' low in Miami (airport) was 58 degrees....but inland areas did get cooler as you mention. Still this hasn't been as cold as the November 2006 cold outbreak...where Miami spent 2 consecutive days with highs at or below 65 deg. No high temps below 70 this month....none in the forecast.
November 2008 to date...lowest 'high' temp at MIA - 72 deg. Lowest 'low' temp at MIA - 52 deg
vs.
November 2006...lowest 'high' temp at MIA - 63 deg. Lowest 'low' temp at MIA - 45 deg (which probably means colder inland spots saw 30s).

NWS office forecasts for the first part of the upcoming holiday across florida…the “sunshine state” looks like it will live up to its name from the panahandle to the keys with slowly moderating temps...don't forget the sunscreen if you are outdoors for an extended amount of time!

Another front moves through by Tuesday or so...
bringing temperatures over central inland Florida
of 40-45 *F into Wednesday night. Then things warm up.
I wonder, with temperatures averaging 25 degrees below
normal last week and now still 15-20 degrees below normal
this week and 10 degrees below normal today, even with that
warm up temperatures will still be 5 degrees below normal.
Usually, you get prefrontal temperatures 10 degrees above normal,
and then post-front temperatures 10 degrees below normal.
But with these cold fronts, the temperature does not even modify
to the normal temperatures.
With this in mind, a strong cold front in December or January could
put Florida in a Severe Freeze.
In 2002, Tampa dipped to the upper 30s for the first time in very late
November/December. That was a very cold winter. January 24, 2003
brought Arctic Fury with a low in Tampa of 27*F and 29*F in Saint
Petersburg, the coldest in a decade.
We have ALREADY in mid november seen widespread mid to upper
30s; Could this mean a potentially devastating freeze in January,
if you extrapolate- you are looking at, with these series fronts,
the following December/January Cold Potentials:
Tampa: 25*F
Saint Petersburg: 27*F
Miami: 32*F
Orlando: 24*F
Tallahassee: 9*F
Destin: 9*F
Unless there is a significant pattern change, we are in for a
significantly brutal winter- especially for farmers. The jet stream
has a HECK of extra energy this year allowing it to dive so far south
in the East while setting heat records in the West.
