I see blue sky to my west, clouds are about to clear.

That’s good looks like the quick warm up will occur then on Wednesday and Thursday.

So are you saying that the bottom is going to drop out wednesday morning all the way down to the coast?

Proof right there! We joke about it but living downwind of warm lakes is beneficial. I don't think it's just one lake either, it probably starts off in Texoma and gets juiced passing Lewisville etc. That one band has been persistent.

Looks like at least 1.3" officially but it's been snowing there well since.

.SHORT TERM... /NEW/
Update:

The Metroplex snow spigot has not been turned off and will remain
flowing until about mid-morning. Snow has fallen for most of the
area south of Ray Roberts, Lewisville, and Grapevine lakes all
night. The DFW Airport received 0.4" of snow before midnight and
another 0.9" of snow between midnight and 6AM, bringing the event
total to 1.3". I would not be surprised if some areas received
over 2" of snow, but we have not received any reports to confirm
this yet. Most roadways in this area are covered with snow, but
it is a dry snow which is helping mitigate travel impacts. With
that being said, vehicle traffic will compact the snow, then
sunshine later today will melt some of the snow this afternoon.
Once the sun goes down and the temperature falls tonight, it will
result in numerous slick roads that will impact the Tuesday
morning commute. It is advised to either delay or cancel/change
your travel plans Tuesday morning if able.

Also, I don't know anything about cancellation policies, but I can't imagine that any ISD would want kids waiting on buses with temps in the low teens to single digits. It's just dangerous.

Very true. Cold and ice combo will need to be taken into consideration with the ISDs.

12z Canadian keeping with the huge icing event for next Monday will be something to watch.

The Canadian model is the EXTREME outlier with these temps. Toss it out. More likely 20s along the coast. See NBM forecast and keep an eye on HRRR.

Houston roads are becoming increasingly problematic today, especially where temps won’t make it above freezing.

Where is a link for a good high-res Texas visible satellite? The FWD links are dead.

One of the best on the web imo is COD: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=regional-southcentral-02-24-0-100-1&checked=map&colorbar=undefined

Huge difference b/w the 12z GFS and Canadian for Wednesday morning at DFW. GFS is about 20F warmer :layout:

Toss it. Only amateur weather hypsters waste time on the Canadian in winter lol (seriously, it's an extreme outlier, and I would say there is very little chance it verifies)

The backend-warming up type icing events seldom verify. They look apocalyptic because you have a lot of warm, moist air coming up. It will overwhelm cold more than likely. I'm not fully sold on it. That doesn't mean we can't have some snow or sleet before it changes.

Icon also showing ice storm for north Texas. Guess it just depends on temps. GFS had something 2 days ago.
