Several times during the previous night I did hear short bursts of what sounded like Morse Code emanating from my clock. It woke me up, but not enough to investigate further. Sounded like a code I used to hear on my shortwave radio when listening to the atomic clock signal (.. .-.. ..-. . which translates to ILFE, though I have no idea what that means).

Gremlins my friend. Gremlins. They are there to say, "Not so fast on Summer" :) Winter will come back.

Spring feels so good here, I hope the models are wrong about going back into winter.

It was wxman57's winter confirmed...

U.S. breaks record for warmest winter

WASHINGTON -- Federal meteorologists say this winter was the warmest in U.S. record
The average temperature for the Lower 48 states from December through February -- the period known as meteorological winter -- was 36.8 degrees Fahrenheit, 4.6 degrees above normal. That breaks the record set in 1999-2000.

Just made it back from Santa Fe. New Mexico was awesome. Santa Fe was beautiful and we took a hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque. Saw a low of 25 one morning in Santa Fe and on Tuesday say a few snowflakes/graupel fall as we walked around town with temps in the 40's. I could tell it was snowing pretty good in the higher elevations. All in all a great vacation. I hope everyone escaped any catastrophe with all the storms while I was away. I did not know how bad it was until I had a phone conversation with my mother and father who live east of here on Caddo Lake. Their house is on the lake is just a few feet from flooding and a mandatory evacuation was given for them to leave because of rising lake levels and more rain forecasted. Other than speeding through some posts I have no idea how much of an impact the rain had on DFW. The one thing I dislike about leaving the DFW area for an extended period is missing weather events! And now It looks like winter might make a return(or make an appearance). Nice to be back and I hope all are well.

The rain hasn't been too bad here actually... I've only recorded about 3" and more than half that fell in the squall line Tuesday morning(and the sun came out for awhile Tuesday afternoon). There's been a lot of breaks too and the intensity hasn't been that heavy since Tuesday. To our east especially in Louisiana it's been nothing short of historic.

00Z Euro has low 70s in the D-FW area next Friday, but a cold front drops temps to the mid 40s on Saturday with a high in the low 60s. Probably a lot more likely.

12Z GFS is colder again for next Fri/Sat, but Euro says "nope". Coldest the Euro has is mid 40s in the D-FW area next Saturday with mid 50s in Houston.

Let's see, name the last time that the GFS has been correct in forecasting very cold and/or snow for Texas this winter? There's your answer.

:uarrow: Euro it is. No surprise there. The temps could go back down to normal. Heck with it, bring on warmth and more sporadic rain, not long gaps between storms.

PDO rose to yet again remain positive in February at 1.75. We are going 2+ years of nonstop +PDO readings so this is not just a "blip." La Nina's during +PDO regimes are usually more tame and are less likely to produce severe drought. They also have a tendency to produce some prolific winters.

Models for awhile now on and off have been eyeing the annual Easter late winter shock. We'll have to see how this pans out, for March standards anyway. Euro has a snowstorm in Oklahoma.

I think that the "Easter shock" may be that the above-normal temps continue. No real cold down here, anyway. Heading out on our bikes for a ride in the warm, sunny weather. Will stop by Buffalo Bayou, it's regatta day today. Then down to Little Liberty in Rice Village for lunch. Long ride up to Beck's Prime (for lunch) in the Heights tomorrow. After Sunday, temps climb to the mid 80s and there will be plenty of daylight for evening rides to Hermann Park.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think above normal temperatures will continue around the equinox. It may not be "cold" but it won't likely be above normal.

I'm not convinced it'll be cold persay... but these 80s coming up are going to be short-lived at least. :P Highs around 60 for DFW next weekend on the 12z Euro.

Any info on 1-10 East from Houston to Lake Charles would be welcome. Driving my mom to LaBerge this Thursday and coming home Friday. Getting very nervous about it with rain north today and expected rains on Thursday and Friday . Don't want to disappoint her but also don't want to get us in a bad situation. Are roads safe even with additional rain? Bye im not the best driver lol slow is how I go lol
