Wilfred would not have been named unless it displayed more banding. Probably Vicky, too. Don't remember what scatterometer data we had then, if any.

Alpha absolutely would not have been named in 2005.

No way you could miss Alpha's radar signature even in 2005

Alpha would have likely been a post-season addition in 2005.

Meanwhile 22 is showing decent though sheared convection. Would have been good if lightening had stayed away from the plane.

Poor little thing. It just keeps getting his/her identity stolen! First Wilfred, now Alpha.

Check out the latest UL water vapor loop. Could this storm simply just continue to move NNE longer than currently forecasted? Anybody remember hurricane Juan. https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=r ... =undefined

This probably will be sufficient to name this Beta at 5 p.m. EDT.

I say we give her an ice cream sundae and a pony.

Although I just saw she might be about to get named, so maybe her luck is finally starting to turn around?

See where the high cirrus clouds are expanding NW?
That could mean the trough is filling and will be replaced by ridging as per some model runs that pull it back toward the Texas coast. If it is fast enough to avoid the rebuilding ridge it could have followed out as the tail end of a trough.

Ku-band scatterometer, the World Trade Center stress analysis, and JP7 those were interesting times.

As for 2005 vs. 2020, I do think that, with ASCAT passes, the unnamed storm of 2005 would have been operationally named (Tammy).

I'd go with 40 kt assuming some of the passes missed the peak.

The ridge in all likelihood will catch it imo, and keep TD 22/Beta meandering and pinned down over the Western Gulf for several more days.
