Anyone know that time high tide is around here? Near exchange place path...

7:53 p.m. Not good. Water at Battery is almost at earlier peak with highest tide more than 2.5 hours away. judging from the Battery Obs, it will get to 10 ft, at the current rate. Or maybe 2 more feet in the current pic.

OK, I'm lazy... What height (not including standard water level...1.3'?) at B.P. was equated to possible subway flooding?

While NHC is still classifying Sandy as a hurricane, satellite and radar representation shows that it has made the transition to a extra-tropical storm and has been absorbed into the large upper level circulation. Symantics at this point because the effects on the northeast are still the same.

Visible loop makes it look like the center busted open at landfall. The SE wind shoulder still hasn't reached NY.

10.5' is the top level recorded and generally the level over which the subway system coudl flood. Irene was 8-12" from that level.

I think some people watching TWC hear them say not a hurricane and get a false sense of security. Just like on here you must make disclaimer as to not do same thing.

ohhh gov Chris Christie not too happy with the mayor of atlantic city. He says "for some reason" the mayor told everyone to go to shelters and they would be fine. Well now Christie is saying they can't come and get them, that it is their responsibility. (listening to his news conference on http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/livenow?id=8857235

The live CNN reporter at Atlantic City says conditions have moderated. That might be it, I'm not sure.

Just to clerify, is that 10.5' over the min water level or 10.5' including the min water level (10.5-1.3=9.2' on the charts)?

I just checked. In the December 1992 nor'easter where there was heavy subway flooding and water went well over the Battery, highest water level reached around 9 feet 9 inches.

Agree and we don't want people getting a false sense of security at this point because this storm still has a way to go.
