Maybe if that was the Euro and GFS saying that and it was only 2 days away I'd be really excited!

As you all can see the ECMWF Ensembles does not shunt the cold air to the east as quick as the Operational ECMWF.

GFS Ensembles with the same general thinking as the ECMWF Ensembles in regards to the cold air.

If Ivanhater wasn't a mod, I'd suspend his account for a week for posting that map!

I just showed it to one of my sons who remarked "oh, that would be sweet."

I know the chances of what Ivan posted happening are about 1%, but if by some miracle it does come to fruition you guys in Texas had better learn to share with your neighbors in LA.

You already have some of the best snoballs in the world. :) Believe it or not, you miss those when you move to a place where they call them "snow cones".

Far enough out that it's going to change many times. You know that.

Hmmm GFS has a big storm, lots of moisture. Not as cold, though. At least so far through 168hrs.

Nice seeing the moisture there. I think that is still the biggest question, it seems like it'll be cold enough even if it's not showing it to be right now.

Not a lot of cold air in this run. I don't buy it, though.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer but I wouldn't be shocked if it isn't as cold as it was showing a few days ago. It seems like the big blast is always 10+ days away.

I agree the cold will be there (at least for the northern half). Ensembles and other Ops have always been colder than the GFS. The question has always been how much moisture return will be available since this storm has yet to form. Jigsaw puzzle and forensic science. Just a little bit of everything to make the picture!

FWIW a 1040+ high in the central plains isn't going to stall the front along the red river (central or southern Texas even). At minimal the lower levels will be freezing imo.
