37 years old/tracking for 26 years
Our close brush with David in 1979 started my passion for hurricanes.
Living in Dade County (now Miami-Dade County) throughout the 1980's and passionately tracking storms, I began to get the impression that storms just did not hit Florida (since they ALL seemed to get close and then turn). Of course, Andrew changed that misconception as we experienced the worst he had to offer in his northern eyewall (Andrew made landfall at 25.4 and our house was at 25.5).
Post-Andrew I'm just as avid tracker as Pre-Andrew -- the difference: every time a storm comes really close, instead of a feeling of excitement and anticipation, I get a feeling of fear and dread in the pit of my stomach. I know many, if not most people on this thread, have at least experienced a hurricane, but I'm not sure how many lived through the eyewall of a category 5. Please share your thoughts if you have. The experience changes you forever.

bump.
Sorry if this wasn't suppose to be bumped, but I think that it goes along with the lat/lon thread.
EDIT: BTW I am 14 now, not 13 anymore. My birthday was last month.

Hey wxman57, pretty dang close to you there. 49 here and I've been tracking hurricanes since Dora 1964 when we were let out of school early. My first recollection of a storm was Donna when the rain was pouring through our windows. I'd probably be a met but was/am terrible at math and as some fellow posters might be able to tell, I shoot from the hip too much.
