I think I can see the dry line in Wise and Parker counties on the base reflectivity radar, and it is barely moving. If these storms can clear out of the Metroplex soon enough, with a couple more hours of decent sunshine left in the day, more storms could develop.

Yesterday has been an eventful afternoon. At around 2:00PM CDT, Tornado Watch #148 was issued for North Texas as a broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms begin to develop along and east of Decatur, Weatherford to north of Meridian. A couple of those storms in Southern Tarrant and Northern Johnson COunties as well as Denton and Collin Counties were developing tornadoes. One of the Tornadic storms also moved into southern Dallas County, but was slowly losing its strength. The National Weather Service will survey the damage in those hard hit areas and determine whether a tornado has in fact touched down.

We're not quite through with the thunderstorms just yet...we still got a chance of thunderstorms tonight through Wednesday Night, but all that should clear up by Thursday and we will have ourselves a nice weekend.

As the evening for severe weather draws near, many North Texans are already planning ahead for what could be a repeat from Monday as most of the region is under a moderate risk for severe thunderstorms. Large hail, destructive winds and maybe a few tornadoes are possible.

Many North Texans are rudely awakened early this morning by some strong to severe thunderstorms that has pounded the region since Midnight. Many areas got hail up to an in. in diameter. Also, winds in excess of 60 MPH has blown down trees and knocked out power to over 1,000 customers. A Severe THunderstorm Watch is in effect for the Northern 1/3rd of North Texas until 7:00AM CDT, however; another Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for the Southeastern 1/3rd of the region (including Dallas County) until 10:00AM CDT. We're also experiencing cooler temps once again as current readings fall into the 50s with isolated areas in the upper 40s.

Did anybody have a nice weekend? I sure did...despite a cloudy start on Saturday Morning. Temperatures that day have reached the 70s and yesterday, highs have topped the 80s. We'll see the same thing today--wait a minute, why can't we see the 80s on Saturday?!?! Anyways, and from Tuesday on, we'll have a chance of thunderstorms. Some will possibly be severe on Tuesday with gereater chances Wednesday abd Thursday.

Well North Texans, get ready for another round of severe weather from this afternoon to Wednesday. The greatest risk of severe thunderstorms will take place on early Wednesday where isolated tornadoes are possible. All this is associated with a cold front that's gonna sweep through North Texas at that time. The thunderstorms will continue through Thursday evening and on Friday, we'll have cooler and windy conditions with highs near 70 and lows in the 40s.

It has been a wild and crazy 12 hour period. At around 6:00PM, an organized storm has formed in the Abilene area and was drifting Northeastward into the North Texas area. It was capable of producing tornadoes in Brekenridge (Stephens County) all the way to Northern Parker and Palo Pinto Counties and then penetrating the northern neighbors of the immediate DFW area. But just when we thought we dodged that one vicious storm, a squall line of more vicious storms was formed and has quickly swept through the region. Some of the storms did produce some rotation just enough to activate Tornado Warnings for Johnson, Somervell, Northern Dallas and Southern Collin Counties, but mostly it contained large hail, destructive winds of over 80 MPH and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning which knocked out power to thousands of customers. The National Weather Service will survey the damage by Sunrise to determine if in fact some tornadoes have touched down, due to the fact that the twister may have been rain-wrapped. Judging from the National Radar, the squall line has formed as far north as Western Missouri to as south as Austin. Right now, the line of storms is moving into Texasrkana, Shreveport, and Lufkin as cleanup continues in North Texas. The weather should improve my Midday through next week, and don't be surprised if you feel a chill on Saturday and Sunday mornings as lows dip into the 40s. However, Tornado Watch #187 still goes in effect for the eastern 1/2 of North Texas including DFW until Noon CDT. Also a Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire region until 9:00PM CDT. So, some windy conditions may hinder the cleanup efforts.

As far as Thursday Morning's storms, the National Weather Service has determined that 5 tornadoes have touched down in Stephens, Collin, Dallas, and Johnson Counties. Most of them were rated an EF-1 with winds of up to 95 MPH. Just enough to overturn some 18-wheeler trucks and rip off roofs of many houses and businesses. There was already a serious injury reported in that active 24-hour periods.

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
845 PM CDT THU APR 10 2008

...PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF DAMAGE SURVEYS IN TARRANT...COLLIN...
DALLAS...AND JOHNSON COUNTIES FROM EARLY MORNING STORMS ON APRIL
10TH...

A SURVEY TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH
SURVEYED DAMAGE THURSDAY AFTERNOON FROM THUNDERSTORMS IN THE
DALLAS-FORT WORTH METROPLEX EARLIER TODAY. THE WIDESPREAD WIND
DAMAGE RESULTED FROM AN INTENSE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOPED
INTO A BOW ECHO AS IT APPROACHED THE METROPLEX. THE TERM BOW ECHO
DESCRIBES THE RADAR PRESENTATION OF THE STORMS...WHICH ACCELERATES
OR BOWS OUT AS A RESULT OF THE STRONG WINDS. WHILE MOST OF THE
DAMAGE SURVEYED SUGGESTED STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS OF 70 TO 75 MPH...AT
LEAST TWO TORNADOES OCCURRED WITH AN INTENSE CIRCULATION ACROSS
NORTHEAST JOHNSON COUNTY AND SOUTHERN DALLAS COUNTY.

THE JOHNSON COUNTY TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NORTH OF ALVARADO NEAR HAPPY
HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 330 AM CDT AND TRAVELED NORTHEAST FOR
APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES TO PLEASANT POINT. SEVERAL HOMES SUSTAINED
SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE...AND AT LEAST THREE HOMES WERE CONSIDERED
TOTAL LOSSES. MANY SHEDS...DETACHED GARAGES...AND OTHER SMALL
OUTBUILDINGS WERE DAMAGED OR DESTROYED. SEVERAL TREES WERE
UPROOTED...AND AT LEAST TWO FELL ONTO HOMES. POWER LINES WERE DOWNED
THROUGHOUT THE AREA. THIS TORNADO IS RATED EF-1 WITH ESTIMATED WIND
SPEEDS OF 90 TO 95 MPH. THE PATH WIDTH IS ESTIMATED TO BE
APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS WIDE.

THE SECOND TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN DESOTO AT APPROXIMATELY 4 AM IN
THE CENTRAL PORTION OF THE CITY ALONG MEADOWBROOK ROAD JUST WEST OF
HAMPTON ROAD AND TRAVELED EAST-NORTHEAST TO NEAR THE EASTERN LIMITS
OF THE CITY JUST NORTH OF WINTERGREEN ROAD. AGAIN...SEVERAL HOMES
HAD SUBSTANTIAL ROOF DAMAGE...WITH ONE HOME NEAR THE BEGINNING OF
THE TRACK LOSING THE MAJORITY OF THE ROOF. MANY DOWNED TREES WERE
OBSERVED ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO SHEDS AND OUTBUILDINGS. POWER POLES
AND POWER LINES WERE ALSO DOWNED. THIS TORNADO IS ALSO RATED EF-1
WITH ESTIMATED WIND SPEEDS OF 95 MPH AND A PATH WIDTH OF 40 YARDS.
MORE ISOLATED DAMAGE WAS REPORTED SOUTHWEST OF THE TORNADO ACROSS
SOUTHWEST SECTIONS OF DESOTO...BUT THIS DAMAGE WAS MORE SCATTERED IN
NATURE AND APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS.

THE SURVEY TEAM ALSO SURVEYED DAMAGE IN THE MID CITIES AREA AND INTO
SOUTHWEST COLLIN COUNTY IN PLANO. WHILE MUCH OF THE OBSERVED DAMAGE
IS CONSISTENT WITH HIGH-END STRAIGHT LINE WINDS OF 75 TO 80
MPH...ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS BEING GATHERED FROM THESE AREAS FROM
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS AND EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS...AND THIS
ASSESSMENT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED PRELIMINARY.

THIS DAMAGING LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS WAS PART OF ONE OF THE MOST
ACTIVE 24-HOUR PERIODS IN RECENT NORTH TEXAS WEATHER HISTORY. WE
WILL CONTINUE REVIEWING THE METEOROLOGICAL DATA AND THE DAMAGE
ACROSS OUR AREA TO DOCUMENT AS FULLY AS POSSIBLE THE IMPACTS OF THIS
SIGNIFICANT EVENT. WE WILL PREPARE AND DISTRIBUTE ADDITIONAL
STATEMENTS AS THE INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
