18z models adjust the surface warmer, which seems more realistic, and that pushed the icing threat almost out of the DFW area.
Yeah even up here honestly it looks borderline. I mean it doesn't take much ice to cause chaos but yeah

Yeah with all that moisture surging northward, temps are going to rise via warm air advection out ahead of this disturbance and so even if temps were borderline initially, any threat for freezing rain would be short lived with these type of setups. Looking better for DFW even if the threat wasn't high to begin with.
Been stuck in the low 40's all day. Bring on the rain!

The definition of “balmy” in the actual dictionary is “pleasantly warm” - emphasis on the pleasant part

Lol we were only in the 20s today although I will say it didn't feel as terrible as the 6 and 14 last week

TWC has popped a 60 on February 1st... Might be time to open the pools

Seriously, Chaff?? Lol
What the hell is chaff? That's hilarious. I hope it's part of a secret military program to help seed the atmosphere with snow.

Refreshing walks for me are in the 60’s lol I can’t do crap outside when it’s freezing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the cold extreme temps but only for a few minutes just to experience it.

January for many in the state is pretty much booked to be below normal. There's just no impending cold waves in the immediate future, alongside the unfavorable MJO.
Around mid-February is the time we should see effects from the recent SSW (should we be the chosen ones) as well as more favorable MJO setup then. Ensembles shows anomalous cooling in S-Central Canada and Northern US, thus I see it as hinting towards a cold wave for that period, as it stands.
The traditional Super Bowl- Valentine's Day-Daytona 500-President's Day time period event seems to be arriving right on time

Thanks for the post. I was aware of the countermeasures used by the Allies against the Germans in WW2 but never knew the term "chaff". In all the WW2 literature I have read it was always described as metal strips or aluminum(magnesium?) strips being dropped from planes. Very interesting.

Best of luck to those in OK and AR dealing with the Ice. You can have it!

Those of us who welcome winter rains … I’m psyched to see model guidance showing 3-4” of liquid gold for areas of south central Texas over the next few days! We so desperately need it down here.

Pretty good temp bust on the lows was supposed to be 25 at my place but hovered right around freezing. I am skeptical that it gets below freezing tonight.

Booo! Normally, I would be right there with you. However, this really puts a damper on my trip down that way lol
I usually take advantage of work travel to do some longer runs in the evenings
