I was wondering if I could get some advice, as I have never flown during a hurricane before. My current flight is 2:45pm Thursday departing Chicago to Fort Lauderdale. With how landfall keeps getting pushed back, I'm starting to wonder if that flight will even happen. I'm wondering if I should change the flight to 7am on Friday. Or, I could do a 6:40am Thursday flight with a stop in ATL on the way to Ft Lauderdale. What would you suggest? Thank you.

SEFL mets have become increasingly interested in this afternoons motion, models are interesting but the real weather is too, lets see how long this motion holds. Every bit of motion matters, especially in this situation with the surge and tb.

Its a Dvorak measurement to estimate the intensity of Tropical Cylones based on Satellite and IR presentations. The higher the number goes towards 8.5, the more intense the number. T8.0+ is basically the worst of the worst

Beat me to it. Can 8.5 be assigned as a a final T value or is it only for raw and adjusted values?

Was Patricia not an 8.5?

Northwest eyewall you mean? I sorta see it

Yeah, that’s what I’m looking at.

Does anyone have Mexican radar, or is Milton out of range?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

They will fly around the storm, with no issues. Winds may be slightly elevated in FLL but i wouldnt expect the airport to close. There may be a delay in your flight or many flights as they are having to deviate around the storm.

In 2005, I flew from FLL to Houston about 9 hours before Katrina made landfall.

NewsON is an app that you can get on your electronic devices or SmartTV that has links to Local Stations.
It's a great way to follow the storm and landfall.
I used it with Helene to watch the Tallahassee station until it went off the air and I switched to Southern GA stations.
There is also LocalNow where you can select a station to watch coverage on.[/quote]

Check out Zeam its also great for local stations.

Too bad we don't have recon in there - I suspect we're probably back in category five land.

Yup. I can confirm that.

Late to turn or serious south shift?...

This tricky devil looks like it has plenty of second wind from the Loop Current...

Hey shear_vector - earlier post had disclaimer that it’s not scientifically proven. We all get that. I want heads ups in a specific storm thread if there is an event I might need to take note of whether that’s an EWRC, recon or whatever. But I agree about y’all having a discussion in Talking Tropics or general weather board. You should create that thread.

Any reports from The Yucatan Peninsula on how they are holding up? Is there anything there? It's been taking a constant beating from Milton for days now

At the risk of tempting fate...Tampa's escape from catastrophe is for the track to tick south. I think it finds a way to happen
