The tide going down is not stopping the surge from rising.

its the winds piling the water into the bays.....you still have buoys out there with 47knts sustained and 60knt gusts and this is on the back side of Sandy....you have this kind of wind at this direction the tide will not go out as fast....

I am stunned, just stunned! Every other word out of my husband and I mouths is holy @#$%. We were born and raised in Brooklyn and Belmar, Lakewood NJ. We are trying to get a hold of as many of our family members as we can that are up htere. Which is just about ALL of our family. Thank god for facebook, some have been able to get on thru their phones. But the majority have not. Prayers are going out to everyone dealing with this, along with the family and friends that are watching this historic event unfold. My heart is breaking for everyone in NJ and NY. :(

SouthDadeFish wrote:Just crazy to wrap my head around that we are witnessing the worst storm in NYC in over 200 years. It's not just NYC though, the entire NE is getting destroyed. I can only imagine the areas being hardest hit are unable to be reached at this time by rescue teams as well as the media. Daybreak tomorrow will be scary.

Heartbreaking; I am in Florida, not much local on this. The headlines yesterday from JAX were on the Fla./Ga. game. It will be nationwide news tomorrow, but as the PTS began as a hurricane I wish the NHC would still provide basics on POST TROPICAL STORM f/k/a SANDY. It is not to be. My county is very small, I look to the NHC when Beryl & Debby hit, and all the others before them. Plenty of news, yes, but I look for coordinates.

Disclaimer: 50% of the time I have no clue of what I am talking about. Chances are I am taking a less than educated guess that sounds good because 10 years ago I stole Mike Watkins book 'The Hurricane and its Impact'. For official information please direct yourself to the NHC and their cadre of weather geniuses.

Been there so many times when you feel disappointed when the hype doesn't live up to the storm. Feeling ashamed of that now. I wish that that was the case here. I am heartbroken listening to the scanners. This is a major, major event. Lots of people stuck in elevators around Manhattan. what a nightmare.
