Re:
0.40" in Fort Lauderdale would be 10x the amount we have seen so far in january (0.04" month to date at airport as of yesterday). Actually, that would be more than we have had since December 1.....total December 08 rain was 0.13").
Phoenix has had 0.15" of rain to date in January...and 0.97" in December....if we could only be as wet as Phoenix.

Six pages of reports have been released by NWS TBW, and it seems I got more rain than I thought!

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Showers & T-storms, followed by cold
Miami International picked up 0.26" today!!!
Here in Fort Lauderdale....a trace (at airport). Monthly total stands at 0.04" and will likely end the month with that amount...making it the 2nd driest January on record

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Showers & T-storms, followed by cold
After quick temperature drops this afternoon, temps have been very steady for the last several hours across south florida and not too windy....although much cooler than the 80s we have seen this week, this is not the level of cold airmass that we saw 10 days ago.
West Palm temp at 5pm - 58F, temp at 9pm - 55F
Fort Lauderdale temp at 6pm - 61F, temp at 9pm - 60F
Miami temp at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm constant at 60F, winds N at 8 mph
Latest NWS Miami update shows temps around 50F for lows in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL

.UPDATE...
COLD FRONT HAS PRESSED WELL OFFSHORE WITH CLEARING LINE MOVING
INTO THE MIAMI AND FORT LAUDERDALE AREAS LATE THIS EVENING. WHERE
SKIES HAVE CLEARED...BOUNDARY LAYER HAS ALREADY DECOUPLED ALL THE
WAY UP THE WEST HALF OF THE PENINSULA AND TEMPS HAVE DROPPED INTO
THE MID 40S IN SOME AREAS. OF COURSE...THIS IS A SIGN THAT WINDS
MAY NOT MEET CRITERIA FOR THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY ISSUED EARLIER
FOR THE NW INTERIOR ZONES...BUT AM RELUCTANT TO CANCEL IT SO EARLY
WITH MUCH OF THE NIGHT STILL AHEAD. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT LOW
TEMPS IN THE SAME AREA TONIGHT. TEMPS HAVE DROPPED QUICKLY THIS
EVENING BUT ARE ALREADY APPROACHING DEWPOINT VALUES...AND THERE IS
NO STRONG ADVECTIVE PUSH OF COLD/DRY AIR INTO THE REGION. ON THE OTHER
HAND...THE SOIL IN THESE AREAS IS VERY CONDUCIVE FOR RADIATIONAL
COOLING IF WINDS CONTINUE NEAR CALM...AND THIS COULD LEAD TO QUICK
TEMP DROPS. GIVEN THESE COMPETING FACTORS...WILL NOT MAKE MANY CHANGES
TO TEMPS AT THIS TIME.
THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT A LITTLE FROST COULD FORM IN SHELTERED
LOCATIONS ACROSS GLADES, HENDRY AND NORTHERN INTERIOR COLLIER
COUNTIES LATE TONIGHT...HOWEVER THESE CONCERNS ARE TEMPERED BY
SOME SLIGHTLY DRIER AIR SNEAKING SE DOWN THE GULF COAST WHICH
WOULD KEEP TEMP/DEW POINT SPREADS HIGH ENOUGH TO PREVENT FROST
FORMATION...AND WILL LEAVE OUT OF THE FORECAST AT THIS TIME.
PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...

Highs will only be in the upper 60s Monday- this cooler
air mass should limit severe weather. So Monday will
have some rain and possibly some thunderstorms but
severe weather should be rather isolated. Now inland
areas getting to the 70s may see some more instability...
but for right now it looks like temperatures may not moderate
enough for a severe weather concern, which of course
is a good thing.

Latest run now showing only one night next week dipping below 50 deg in Miami (46 deg) compared to yesterday's forecast for 2 such nights...slight moderation trend continues with the forecast run for upcoming week....still looks like a very cool few days....but 'cool' may be the key word.
Model run for Tampa now shows temps staying above freezing next week (min temp of 36F) compared to yesterday's run which forecast Tampa hitting 31F mid-week.

More than the specific numbers, the trend of slight moderation of expected airmass may be the thing to watch and see if it continues or changes. If this verifies, the main citrus and produce regions would not have a repeat of last week's widespread below freezing temps.

I'm thinking that cold was overplayed too... Upper 40's for a night or two for Miami. Still looks like a very "chilly" week coming up for S Florida.
Pretty cool looking at N. America this morning. Very few clouds covering the entire country. Lots of sun for everyone today. Lets hope that late January sun can heat us all up. Upper 30's here today, warmest so far this month.
GFS isn't too hyped on precip for Miami this week.
This front has made it WELL south of S. FL... Check out Habana, Cuba obs:

The national weather service does not, at this time, foresee a severe weather
threat, but mentions numerous rain showers and possible thunder. Accuweather,
however, paints a stronger possibility for severe weather and tornadoes.
I will go with the national weather service, their forecast seems more probable
at this time.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Showers & T-storms, followed by cold
Lows across SE FLorida tonight range from the low to upper 40s, according to NWS.
SAT images show lots of stratocumulus just offshore Palm Beach (about 25 miles or so)...some stratocumulus has started to work into Northern Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
With a NE wind tonight around 5-10mph as the High scoots across Northern FL out into the Atlantic fairly quickly in response to another cold front farther west, I would expect some of these clouds to work into SE Florida and the airmass significantly modified passing over the Gulf Stream current.
It wouldn't surpise me if SE FL coastal communities see lows in around 55-60F with lows around 50F inland....
I just don't see much of the metro SE FL areas of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade, falling below 50F except well inland, maybe.
