Pretty juiced up but keeps the freezing line NW of DFW the entire run. Gets basically all of Texas up in the 60/70s on Wednesday with some 80s in deep S. Texas.

Lol :spam:

Most of the models show Texas warming up some on Wednesday, the Euro is about 20F warmer across the Central & N. Texas however - with 60s for DFW vs 40s. The front does finally push south through all of Texas by the end of the run (90hr) but freezing temps are still NW of DFW.
There is some chance the front wavers north some Wed but I doubt to moves that far north. Better chance the front stays down near the coast or maybe 100 miles inland.

It’s 39 here. It was 56 just a couple of hours ago and the breeze is strong and steady out of the north.

How easy are they to hook up to a house, don't you need special equipment to install, etc?

I ignorantly thought you could just plug stuff into it, but there is a special transfer switch you need. Researching that.

if you want a whole house switchover, that is expensive and requires the services of an electrician. if your furnace is electric and not natural gas, that is the only way to keep the house heated (not counting a good old fashioned fire place). if you just want something to run appliances and electronics off of with extension cords, that is much simpler and you can get one of those foe $500-$1k.

If you have gas heat and your electric is out how does your blower move air?

00z 3k NAM has freezing drizzle across the northern portions of DFW by morning. I wonder if FWD will issue an update or wait for the other models to come in? Right now, it looks most point forecast are just cloudy with temps in the mid-30s.

It won't work. Your furnace has a safety setup that won't allow it to work without electricity being on.

Yep, according to the model, you’ll start seeing frozen precip tomorrow morning, then again tomorrow night

It's going to be an interesting battle for tomorrow. NAM and HRRR barely gets us to 40 while the OPs are a good 10 degrees warmer. Given the ground truth which would you believe? It's the same tune for Wednesday.

Fair point. Our furnace is electric so we have the whole house switchover. :D

Get a coal or oil based boiler in the basement with radiators.

Seen them in my families house in Jersey.

Precip is much more widespread tomorrow night with freezing temps in the northern portions of DFW. Temps are running a good 5F colder than 18z.

Our house is electric heat pump.

Also, what’s a basement?

Miss those from Kansas.

If y’all need a current reference point based on modeled temps, 15 min NE of WF it’s currently 26 with a windchill of 14 on my weather station.

Probably observing trends and see how areas upstream are doing. Freezing line would be getting close in the AM.

I've seen the models mishandle Arctic air many times in my 40+ years as a met in Houston. They don't differentiate between a deep Canadian airmass and a shallow Arctic airmass. Shallow Arctic airmasses don't move back to the north as an upper trof approaches. They usually do OK within about 1-2 days of the arrival. The really cold Arctic air will reach you guys Sunday evening.

By the way, I decided to take the jet over to Darwin. Sydney was too cold (mid-60s to mid-70s). It's 88 with a nice breeze currently. Low in the upper 70s. I'd go to the beach, but the saltwater crocodiles are a bit of an issue.
