he didn't even get A chance to retire! He was only 56 years old! His last drill weekend was 5-6 March. He was supposed to officially retire on 1 April.

My ET on my Met Team was two months older than me and I was on his case about retiring. He had had one heart attack and bypass surgery so I was trying to convince him to retire but he didn't want to-said that it would cost him too much money-it wound up costing him his life as he died less than two years later. I don't know if I'm ripe but there are days that I definitely feel old.

Boy do I understand that Steve!!!

Pojo, any word on the deployment? Tell them you S2K friends will not allow it anywhere but friendly territory, like Hawaii.

I got some good news the other day. MY Godson's brother is on his way home from Iraq. he is already in Kuwait and may be even closer than that to home by now.

Just catch up on all the threads since I've been busy at work and saw that you went to Germany. First, happy belated birthday! Second, how did you like Ramstein and Zweibrücken? A couple of years ago I lived in Kaiserslautern while I worked at Sembach Air Base. I remember many late-night McDonalds trips to Zweibrücken -- the closest 24hr McDonalds to K-town. (or at least at that time it was) That was a great assignment! Nonetheless, I had a ton of great memories from Germany and I'm glad you had the chance to experience it before they moved too many of the bases out.

They are in the process of upgrading the terminals at Ramstein (Rhein Mein is closing). I didn't get a chance to really go into K-town at all... towards the end of the trip we were in Ramstein (partying...what we do best). Zweibrucken wasn't that bad, we saw the old air base (one of our people was stationed there)... I didn't like the fact that everything closed by 6pm. We had a few jokes going in cargo because of an anal supervisor... Even though we had a few problems with vehicle arrangements, everything went well after that.

Glad to hear your Godson's brother is coming home!!! There will definitely be a celebration. Remember give him space until he is comfortable with being back home (I didn't get that... boy was I so pissed at one of my friends... she has to be with you 24/7 or be on the phone with you....yes, it gets very annoying!)

As for the deployment.... I'm still on Stand-by. Today (3 Apr) was the official deployment date for all the deployers... From what I understand (don't quote me on it) there still is a possibility. I have to call the base on Monday to figure out the situation (when, if I'm supposed to go down to Milwaukee or not) the actual 75 that are deploying are now in Milwaukee for a few weeks (they aren't sure how long before being shipped out to points unknown)... I could still get a call before they leave to deploy. Basically I'm on stand-by until I deploy OR I actually am inprocessed at Hickam. But here is the situation with Hawaii. Since I have NO time to fly out to Hawaii to find a place to live, Hickam cannot process my application... Hickam needs a local Hawaii address inorder for them to process my application. I went to tech school with someone out there, but he is DEPLOYED... I can't get a hold of him to get his address. There might be a chance I could fly out Space-A, but I'll have to wait and see. Like I said, I have to call the base on Monday to get the situation figured out. Cross your fingers, I haven't had a phone call yet.

Shannon - keep us posted on when you ship out. Shame you can't secure things in Hawaii but that makes sense. My condolences on the passing of your friend. 56 is way too young to go these days. That is very sad.

Who said they're old around here? LOL I turn 50 soon and am really dreading it. I will no long be able to say I'm in my forties. I don't know why I'm holding onto to my 40s so tightly! They weren't my best decade.....eyesight went to h*ll, gray hair multiplied (been covered/colored ever since!), energy went to you know where too, and oh yeah, had cancer at 43. Gee, when I add all of that up, my 50s look much better!!! What am I worried about? he he Can't do anything about it. I guess what I don't care for is when checking off your age on various survey's, etc. I'm way down or up, depending upon how you look at things, on that age bracket list. LOL

Have a nice Monday everyone....and oh yeah, if you haven't nominated a member for March MOTM please.....

NOMINATE SOMEONE DESERVING!

Cruise

#389 Postby furluvcats » Thu Apr 07, 2005 12:01 pm

Hi guys! We're back from our Mexican Riviera cruise...what a great 9 days we had! The weather couldn't have been more perfect...our best souvinier we brought home were our tans :O). We frolicked at the world famous Princess Resort in Alcapulco, hired a private catamaran in Zihuatanejo and spent the day sailing the beautiful azure blue bay, then shopped from the local artisian's stands and bought some local art...loved this port, because its a small seaside fishing village, no big resorts, still pristine and unspoiled...this was my favorite day! The next day we rented a Jeep with a father and daughter we met and Brian drove us through the cobble stoned streets deep into the jungle where we drove a very bumpy dirt potholed road to the "Predator" movie set...where you zipline through the jungle canopy...we just played in the mountain river, Brian slid down the natural rock waterfall slide, and swung from the rope swing into the water...we also went to Mismoloya Beach, sat under a palaypa drinking cold beers as the water washed up under our feet...this was also the beach where Richard Burton's film, "Night of the Iguana" was filmed...it was gorgeous! The next day was Cabo San Lucas...ahhh, what perfection Cabo is...clean, upscale, sport fishing town, with all the ammenities in the world, and still pristine beaches, rock formations, sea lions....I can't go on enough about Cabo...we've been offrered use of a condo there by a business associate of my husbands and we're checking airfare now! LOVED Cabo San Lucas! We went to Cabo Wabo...sammy Hagars bar...pretty cool...hired a boat for a tour of the rocks, basked in the sun on the beach and shopped shopped shopped! We had a perfect cruise...relaxing and exhilerating at the same time...spent lots of quiet time in the ships spa...and ate very well!

Kids are still in Fla. until next Monday...miss them terribly, but still enjoyed the time alone without them!

I need to catch up on everyones posts here...take care ya'll and its good to be back!

I found out good news and bad news... the FIRST batch of deployees go out early Sunday Morning. I'm NOT on that deployment. :D Here is how close I was.....They were dialing my number and someone recalculated and checked the orders... and before the last number was dialed... someone said that I wasn't needed!  I hung my the tip of my fingertips... Literally. A few Master Sergeants came up to me and said I was one lucky young lady.... someone upstairs knew I am under a month to UWGB graduation.

HOWEVER, rumor has it, there is another group deploying... and I'll be on that one if I'm not in Hawaii. I am the first person to be put on the list... guaranteed. That's IF I'm not in Hawaii by then. If I'm in Hawaii, I still could get a chance to deploy with the troops out there... Either way its a lose-lose situation.

Anyways, I've been fighting nasty allergies since Thursday... something is the air. Anyways, I hope a few home remedies help. I'm drinking ginger tea and have a breathe right strip on my nose.... yup, the fashion statement, but it is the only way to get better.    Its definitely hay fever time!

Hi ya peeps! Hope everyone is well. I feel like such a crumb for not stopping by more often. I've been missing you all!

My daughter and I are leaving in a couple hours to New Hampshire for our annual ladies retreat weekend. Can't wait to see my old girlfriends. I should have a few extra laugh lines by Monday.

Take care and see you guys next week!

Well how's everyone enjoying this weekend? I'm having an okay one. Just chilling out for the next like 5 minutes. Going out for mom's b-day, since we probably won't be able to Monday (her real b-day).

BTW please keep my grandma in your thoughts. Her brother died last night at his home in Erlanger just up the highway. His funeral will be later this week.

Pojo, hope your allergies went away. Mine did for now.

Isobar, have a good time. Stop in more often!

Later all.

Sorry to pass along... I'm going to Western Illinois next fall... not UH. :( I have been having problems with Hickam AFB and it seems they cannot fulfill my request. Anyways, with this deployment lingering, it is in my best interest to stay at the 440th in Milwaukee to drill. We already sent 80 people out on a deployment and there is talk to send the rest of the squadron sometime soon. I talked with someone deployed and she is pretty certain that the entire squadron will be deploying on the next deployment day.

As for schooling. Our squadron commander is Vice President of Academic Affairs at Western and I'll pretty much be in good hands with him watching over me.

However, I'll be flying to Hawaii 29 May - 6 June for a graduation present. :D :D Yes. I'll be missing a drill weekend, but I have enough points to satisfy a 'good' year for me.

My mom and step-dad are in support of my decision to go Western and they fully understand that I can still fulfill my goal in 2 years (but a lot little closer to home) It will not be such a hassle to get home for holidays.... and I can still go to Madison on Halloween (oh yea!) :D :D

Hey, Hey, Hey. Me trouble? Jacki trouble? Um... whatever.

I can't wait... I get a chance to visit Macomb at the end of the month... get a chance to talk with professors, see the campus, find an apartment, register for classes... the whole shebang. It helps that my squadron commander is Vice President at Western... I'll be in good hands.

3 Weeks! 3 Weeks! 3 Weeks!!!!! Graduation May 14th! Its almost here! Wow, where did this semester go? :D :D :D :D :D

Turns out if you live in Cincinnati or the Ohio Valley right now, you still need a PBS! Our heat is still on. Can you believe that? Last 2 nights, frost warnings. Tonight, same and some areas freeze warning. Meanwhile, you have people that have planted annuals already. Covering them up each night. I am still wearing my cordouroy pants! And keeping a sweater nearby.

This is May? Feels like March!!!!

Watch us go from these temps to summer-like temps. That's the way it is in Cincy sometimes. From one extreme to the other.

Me? I'm personally loving this cool weather. All around me though are grumbling people. I think I should just move to Alaska.....he he.
