I think it's pretty obvious that El Nino conditons are coming on, however I don't see how a mod/strong event is possibe given that were In the Middle of the PDO negative phase. CLIMO does not favor that sort of thing.

I agree with you on the no strong El Nino in the cold faze of the PDO. If anything a strong La Nina would be possible in this faze. But we can't rule anything out.

The original question was about the 62-63 winter. That winter was one of the coldest ever across most of the country. Snowfall was lacking in NYC but places like DC were above average for snowfall. Maine had one of their biggest blizzards ever on New Years Eve 1962. Snow fell as far south as the Carolina's on Christmas day 1962.
