just out of curiosity what is the "I" myth?

Btsgmdad is right. The recent trend is for the I storm to be destructive and a major hurricane. 2001 had Iris hitting Belize as a Cat. 4, 2002 had Isidore hitting Cuba, Yucutan, and the US Gulf Coast, and 2003 had Isabel hitting the outer banks as a Cat. 2.

Any chance of shear developing and interfering with Ivan's development? Keeping fingers crossed.

The male myth:

For some reason, since hurricanes were given both male and female names, the males seem to have been the more powerful and destructive ones.

With Alex and the southern hemisphere storm we can't deny global warming at this point...

I still don't think global warming has anything to do with this. I believe it is just a normal pattern the earth is going through. I bet the folks in the N.E. U.S.A. didn't think there is any global warming last winter. :)

You could make a case that this is evidence of the earth changing it's axis as easily as evidence of global warming.

I have also heard that the magnetic poles are reversing too!

Not through Days 3 and 4 at least. It's forecast to hit Hispanola as a Cat 4 after that and that will weaken it quite a bit, but I fully expect it to still be a hurricane when it moves back over water. The 5-day position is in the Southeast Bahamas.
