great points...but, i think the weakness in the ridge is in the central and northern gulf...look at the vis and loop it....like you said, watch the clouds come in off the gulf from the SE or so...and then move due N right near...well, houston...

My initial impression was that Emily was moving NW. However, I zoomed in and tracked the feature that is becoming the new eye and it looks like it formed on the northern edge of the "old eye". This feature appears to be moving WNW. It's sort of an optical illusion because the new feature is a bit obscured a few hours ago, then it pops up and makes it appear as though the center is moving NW.
