This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Andrew affected a much, much smaller area, moved quicker and didn't have a storm surge like Katrina.
Regardless of deaths, at the very least there are hundreds of thousands that are now homeless and lost everything. On top of that many will also have lost their place of employment.
I have heard that NO dodged a bullet. It is more like they dodged an ICBM strike and were carpet bombed instead.

Look we've had no official word, nor any media footage of the area where the eye of Katrina made first landfall. These are the areas I am most concerned about. I know a lot of people from Grand Isle, DH worked on the Island for a long time. He also worked just north of Venice. All anyone has is hearsay, the roads are impassable to Grand Isle, Fourchon, and also to Buras and beyond.
Yes there are a bunch of illegal aliens that work on the shrimp boats in Grand Isle, but from all sources I've heard, the authorities on Grand Isle only had 7 people they couldn't account for. Even people that usually wouldn't leave for a storm high tailed it out.
However, down in Plaquemines parish there were reports before Katrina struck - I believe I heard the parish president (?) say on WWL that as many as 20% of people refused to evacuate from that area. Thousands live in that area. That is the area we are most worried about.

I would hope that they would give out actual numbers. If nothing else, knowing that storms actually DO kill people, perhaps more people would take these things seriosuly and leave.

If they minimize the damage, they are only giving people a false sense of security.

You know what? This thread is useless. Peeps in denial on both extremes. I say close this sucker and let's get back to the weather. Geez.

Cut it with the snide remarks and comments about others and stick to the topic at hand. As we have stated all day long, if it does not stop suspensions will be handed out. THE BEST THING TO DO WHEN YOU DON'T LIKE A POST IS MOVE ON, NOT MAKE A RUDE OR RUDER REMARK ABOUT IT OR THE POSTER. If you think it violates S2K rules contact a staff member and let them handle it and don't make any remarks about it.
