The same question was asked at our house. I don't think it was though.

And yes I admit I did watch it after I said I was done with it.

As good as Taylor Hicks is, I still think Chris is better.

Yes, I actually admit that I watched American Idol every week for at least 10 minutes (GASP) -- often flipping between that and America's Top Model (DOUBLE GASP). They were definitely "guilty pleasures" after swearing not to watch either this season! Neither of my favorites won on either show.... :grrr:

American Idol? What's that? LOL

Sorry.....could not resist. I was somewhat surprised it was up against the Lost finale. As Lost started I muttered to my daughter - I wonder what the AI fans are doing right now if they're Lost fans? She just gave me that look as if to say - is there any other choice? I realize this is the day and age of DVR's, VCR's, etc. Like Lost, you would not want to miss the AI finale. If you're a fan of both, I'd say you're pretty darn tired this morning!

I never noticed this much before, but has Lost always been opposite AI?

I'll acknowledge this show has a huge, devoted following but I'm someone from the other camp that just doesn't get all this AI attention. Sorry if that offends anyone.

Back to AI.....

Mary

It was Hasselhoff crying in the audience after all -- they mentioned him and showed him while airing the AI story this morning on Good Morning America.

Sixy-something million votes -- more votes than any presidential election? What the heck? Haven't they fixed it so you can only vote once per phone line? I mean, they probably can't keep someone from voting once on their home phone and then once on their cell, thus, getting two votes in. But do they still let people with no life keep hitting the redial button and vote over and over and over? How sad. Then again, if there's only one vote per phone, it makes it hard for different members of a family to vote for their different Idol favorites.

It's a mess, IMO.

This was the first year I didn't really watch any of it at all -- had no opinion about either finalist, except to say, "That guy (Taylor) looks kinda like a cross between Jay Leno and Frank Sinatra."

Good luck to him. Hopefully, he'll do as well as Kelly and Carrie. Whatever happened to Ruben?

You are still allowed to vote as many times as you want from the same phone line. No restrictions whatsoever....so the 'more votes than any presidential election' comparison that Seacrest made is just silly.

I didn't like any of the final three. Chris was my choice to win. He is the most talented one there. After he got knocked off I just quit watching. What kind of music do you think Taylor will be marketed with?

One couple glad 'Idol' finished

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - There's at least one couple who isn't upset that America's most popular TV show has finished its fifth season.

Dorothy and Jerry Few are tired of getting calls from people who believe they're phoning in a vote for their favorite "American Idol" contestant.

"It's aggravating when it happens," said Dorothy Few, 74, who doesn't watch the Fox show that crowned Taylor Hicks its latest winner Wednesday night. "I hate when somebody calls and hangs up."

During the show's season, from late February through May, viewers call national toll-free numbers to cast their votes for their favorite contestant after Tuesday night performances.

The Fews' phone number closely resembles the toll-free number Fox uses to let viewers vote for their favorite contestants. The voting lines begin 1-866-436-57XX — or 1-866-IDOLSXX — with the last two digits corresponding to a singer.

Ethel Boling, 79, also has phone number with the 866 prefix and said she had been getting eight to 10 wrong numbers a week from "Idol" fans. But as a fellow "Idol" watcher, she doesn't mind the misdials.

"It's kind of exciting, really," she said.

More than 63 million callers cast their vote for the finals this week.

In this final night of the May 2006 sweep (and, sadly, the last night of the traditional TV season), the strength of broadcast television was in full bloom. The two-hour fifth-season finale of Fox blockbuster American Idol, of course, reigned supreme, with a mammoth 21.5/32 in the overnights, 35.36 million viewers, and a 13.8/35 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, season four of American Idol closed on May 25, 2005 with a 19.0/27 in the overnights, 30.27 million viewers, and a 12.5/31 among adults 18-49. How many successful shows of this caliber can you think of that actually grew in season five? Take a look at how American Idol increased in each half-hour:

American Idol (Fox)
8:00 p.m. Overnights: 17.6/28, Viewers: 27.40 million, A18-49: 10.5/32

8:30 p.m. Overnights: 20.7/31, Viewers: 33.02 million, A18-49: 12.8/34

9:00 p.m. Overnights: 22.6/32, Viewers: 38.07 million, A18-49: 14.8/35

9:30 p.m. Overnights: 25.1/35, Viewers: 42.94 million, A18-49: 17.0/38

Former 'Idol' contestant indicted on child stuff charges

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) - A former "American Idol" contestant accused of videotaping sexual encounters with two teenage girls has been indicted on child pornography charges.

Daniel James "DJ" Boyd, 27, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court to charges of production of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

A trial date was set for Sept. 18. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison.

Boyd, a contestant on the popular TV talent competition two years ago, was arrested last month in West Valley City after a 14-year-old girl contacted police. He has remained in the Salt Lake County Jail since his arrest.

The Salt Lake County district attorney's office has also charged Boyd with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and unlawful supply of alcohol to minors.

He is scheduled to appear in district court July 25 for a preliminary hearing on those charges.
