Great site....WX .... If there was any doubt look up Galveston County and see how population has risen substantially. Also note the period 1935-1945. Galveston got hammered.

^^Here is the graphic for Harris Co. Texas. Take a look at all that developement since the last strike!!! Also...look at all those strikes this area had during the last active cycle. I hope I am wrong, but something just tells me that Houston is going to get whacked before 2010, and with most of people here having never "truly" seen hurricane force winds before (especially if you have moved here or were born after 1983), it could be quite a shock. The trees are also not used to that kind of stress around these parts (or at least not over the last 23 years), so the trees would suffer extreme damage from the next 75mph+ sustained hurricane force wind in Houston. BTW, Allison never had "true" sustained hurricane force winds in Houston...for the last time that happened you have to go back to the late 50s/early 60s!

Yep, you see Alicia in 83 up there. 23 years is a lot of time for trees to mature and people to populate an area.
