Yeah, you'll be fine getting back. Getting into town will be tricky, especially between say 9 and 11am...snow will be coming down hard and fast by that point even in Columbus.

Hi all - I'm able to log on again at S2K!

February in general has been very snowy here in Cincinnati. We wondered if we'd ever have a Winter and by now, I think all would agree - it has made an appearance! We had 6 inches fall last week (Feb. 6-7). I work for a school district and we had the 7th off. This week we received 2 more snowdays - Feb. 13 and 14th. This latest storm brought sleet, ice, snow and more ice. Resulting in over 130,000 homes without power in the Cincinnati Tr-state area (N Kentucky, SE Indiana, SW Ohio). We never lost power but it flickered, a lot! We had candles, oil lamps and matches ready. I kept doing laundry in case it went out (wonder if there's a surge at times like this, everyone cramming in more chores, running dishwashers, washers/dryers, etc.?). I brewed coffee, filling a thermos but we never lost power. A few blocks away, homes were w/o for over 24 hours. We still have ice hanging from trees, power lines, gutters, anything and everything outside is covered in ice. Sadly, a 9 yr old little girl lost her life when an ice laden tree limb fell on her, while she was outside walking her dog. That story broke everyone's hearts. I'll post a few links.

Today we have a snow advisory, 1 to 3 inches of fresh powder predicted.

Hey Mary,

I am sorry I couldn't respond but when they switched to "phpbb" it wouldn't let me. Dayton did get a good snowfall last week. We got atleast 8 inches between Monday night and Wednesday morning. In between that time we had about 1/2 inch of ice which is what they we were predicting. My daughter acutally got Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off. Most other schools went back Thursday but as I said almost all the kids walk we don't have any buses and the windchills were anywhere from -15 to -25. There was still alot of snow and ice on our sidewalks and I guess the superintendent didn't want to risk a child falling on the way to school as she would have been in a load of trouble if it had happened. My daughter was one happy camper and I was ready to loose my mind. She also has winter break this week. Because our schools almost never have any snowdays because of no buses and the kids walking they get a winterbreak every year in February. We also go 1 week longer than the communites around us. I am glad to see I was not the only one having problems getting back on here. I started to think maybe it was my connection. We are supposed to warm up this week and get rain. Yuck. Our backyard is going to be a mudpit. It would be nice to have one more snowstorm before winter's end but that probably won't happen. Hope eveyrone is well.

Finally I am no longer snowed in! Got out today, there's still many areas where ice is covering sidewalks, but I can handle ice...it's a matter of slowing down. However with all the moderate to at times, seemingly heavy rain, I did get soaked and there's areas where water is ponding on the roadway and that's going to create havoc...

This morning the Cincinnati area and points north, have a Freezing Fog Advisory posted. We still have a snowpack on the ground, which is making the situation worse and temps hovering near 32. North of the I 275 loop in Cincinnati, fog was freezing on pavement, on/off ramps, bridges, overpasses - which resulted in many school districts to delay.

In my area, fog is bad but I heard up north it was so bad, you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you on interstates!

I turned on the local news channels this morning and saw numerous school announcements - yet again!

The fog is supposed to lift by 10 a.m.

"Ice Storm Warning"

#52 Postby dawgpound » Sat Feb 24, 2007 3:46 pm

Statement as of 3:27 PM EST on February 24, 2007

... Ice Storm Warning in effect from 10 PM this evening to 12 PM
EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued an Ice Storm
Warning... which is in effect from 10 PM this evening to 12 PM EST
Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

A winter storm moving through the Central Plains will spread
precipitation into north central Ohio after midnight tonight. The
precipitation could start as a short period of snow or sleet but
is expected to change to freezing rain for much of the overnight
hours. The freezing rain will continue into Sunday morning before
temperatures warm past the freezing mark changing the freezing
rain to just rain.

Ice accumulations of a quarter inch or more are likely across the
area with this storm.

Also easterly winds are expected to increase to between 15 and 25
mph with gusts over 35 mph early Sunday. This could take down tree
branches and power lines... strained by ice accumulation.

An Ice Storm Warning is issued when a heavy accumulation of ice
will cause hazardous if not impossible driving conditions. You
should consider postponing any travel. If driving is unavoidable,
use extreme caution, and carry a winter emergency kit in case you
are stranded. Roads may become blocked by downed trees and power
lines. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other radio and TV
stations for further details or updates.

Here in Cincinnati, the precip is supposed to start and continue as rain. But our current temp is 37! That's not far from 32. So I'm skeptical. And just one hour north - Dayton, OH - has a freezing rain advisory. So we are soooooo close to this rain/ice line, I'm tempted to stay home tonight!

Stay safe neighbors to my north!

Another event for me to watch from 3000 miles away while we await yet another band of heavy rain on this very mild night.

I should have stayed out there one more winter!

Columbus was under a winter storm watch but this is now a freezing rain advisory. NWS expect freezing rain to become just rain after midnight. They also mentioned small chance of thunder...even in the freezing rain.

And that Freezing Rain Advisory is now an Ice Storm WARNING in Columbus proper until 6am...straight from http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/iln:

DARKE-MIAMI-CHAMPAIGN-CLARK-MADISON-FRANKLIN OH-
INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...GREENVILLE...PIQUA...URBANA...
SPRINGFIELD...LONDON...COLUMBUS

...ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS ISSUED AN ICE
STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST SUNDAY. THE
FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

FREEZING RAIN WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE REGION THIS EVENING.
HOWEVER...TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO SLOWLY RISE OVERNIGHT AND
THIS WILL ALLOW THE FREEZING RAIN TO CHANGE TO ALL RAIN DURING THE
EARLY MORNING HOURS. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO ONE QUARTER INCH
WILL BE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY ON EXPOSED SURFACES. PERIODS OF
SLEET AND LIGHT SNOW WILL OCCASIONALLY MIX IN...BUT THE GREATEST
THREAT WILL BE FREEZING RAIN.

AN ICE STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ICE
ACCUMULATIONS...MAKING TRAVEL DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. TRAVEL IS
STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. COMMERCE WILL LIKELY BE SEVERELY IMPACTED. ICE
ACCUMULATIONS AND WINDS WILL LIKELY LEAD TO SNAPPED POWER LINES
AND FALLING TREE BRANCHES THAT ADD TO THE DANGER.
