You would think it would start to weaken from the land interaction pretty soon even if it is not rushing to landfall.

as long as the eyewall is offsure it can maintain.. upwelling is the only thing that would weaken it right now.

When you post a link, it would help to advise if it's animated or not. That would help people decide if they want to view it. I have all images blocked here to to the immense file sizes some are posting.

I wouldn't worry too much much about the Nuclear plant. It was designed for this and more. I worked on power to and from the plant 37 years ago and had to answer these questions back then. Massive concrete is a great defense against wind.

Cantore says the police will NOT go out to where the traffic is backing up...those people are on their own. God help them if this moves on inland

I'm not going to chase this one.

I land at 11pm in Houston (pilot) and trying to get into the action is too much at night.

Like others have said the smarter course is to get in during daylight and let the storm come to you.

Being in Houston it may do just that lol.

Good luck to all!

It is in 120 feet of water ---- will that have a noticeable upwelling effect?

Sea surface temperatures near the shallow Texas shelf are beginning to plummet, but unfortunately it's too little, too late to stop #Harvey

There is no cold water to upwell in this area. The water is warmer deeper then usual in this area. Upwelling just upwells more warm water in this area. Like feeding a car Nitrous oxide

At 120 feet there's no cold water to upwell in the first place.

Disclaimer: 50% of the time I have no clue of what I am talking about. Chances are I am taking a less than educated guess that sounds good because 10 years ago I stole Mike Watkins book 'The Hurricane and its Impact'. For official information please direct yourself to the NHC and their cadre of weather geniuses.

Harvey is probably moving northwest closer to about 5 mph now. And I do think it will get more than 20 miles inland. NHC track still looks good to me.

This is looking very, very, bad. It's still intensifying close to the coast as it sits and spins.
