Getting a nice dose of moderate rain right now. I think severe weather chances continues to go down the drain with a set up like this for us. Good spring showers though with a few rumbles.

Some storms are firing to the west and NW of I-35 where temps are near 90 and they were sunny much of today. HRRR says they won't hold together in the more stable air where it's 60s further east except far north and isolated one south. Lets see how things play out the next few hours.

Guidance still showing threat of frost/freeze heading into tomorrow night and Tues morning. Another threat later this week Fri/Sat.

Potential tornadic circulation and tennis ball sized hail near Katie, Okla. (a couple of counties north of the Red River).

Rees Timmer is core punching that one.

Hey, that's our state flower. Definitely is not considered a weed, its a wildflower and it is protected by state law.

At this point at least in Central Texas, not sure about the northern part of the state, the peak of the blooming season has already passed and shouldn't be an issue. I think just about all of the native wildflowers will be just fine as they start growing in Autumn and throughout the winter.

Just to be on the safe side if your anywhere north of Austin, out in the hill country or if you know your location typically gets pretty cold, go ahead and cover any sensitive vegetables if possible and cover or bring in any sensitive plants that don't like temperatures below 40 degrees.

I just hope we get some nice rain at least. Been pretty sad as far as what has fallen today.

Careful there my young friend, with all due respect, them are fighting words to many Texans.

You'll quickly fall into the disfavor of many Texans who love this state if you start calling one of our most beautiful natural treasures a "weed."

Meanwhile, strong rotation and pronounced hook echo near Marietta, Okla.

That storm will soon be in Texas.

This was my full post:
TheProfessor wrote::uarrow: It would depend on how resilient to the cold the plants are. And bluebonnets are weeds so I don't know how the cold effects them.

I didn't mean it to sound like I was condemning them, someone asked how they would get affected by the cold and I said I don't know because they are weeds and I don't know how resilient weeds are. And there really isn't a lot of difference between a wildflower and a weed. It depends where your at. An example is milkweed plant; While it is viewed as a wildflower in some parts of the U.S because of its importance to the Monarch Butterfly, it is also viewed as a weed in parts of Canada. I have nothing against bluebonnets, they are very beautiful, It was just quicker to type weed instead of wildflower.

Got you Professor. My bad from not reading YOUR post fully. And my apologies.

I'm a bit on the weak side, sorry. Had quadruple coronary by-pass surgery at the Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano one week ago tomorrow.

So it's going to be a while before I'm back into Storm2k mode 100%.

Meanwhile, big thunder, lightning, etc. rocking and rolling outside my front door. Hope some good rains follow.

A few little pings of hail here and there, but mostly just a sound-and-light show in Denison. No really big hail.

Not much rain, but we had a fair amount this morning, so all in all, not a bad day.

Concerning the current Tornado Watches issued across of parts of Texas and Louisiana, is there a chance some supercells pop through the cap south and east of the squall line?

Why does it seem like the cap holds more over the DFW Metro area than points all around? Is it the Heat Island effect?

Good question. Yesterday (after the morning rain which was nice) storms popped up all around the Metroplex. Amazing and frustrating at the same time. The cap is certainly a phenomenon. I was watching that beautiful line of thunderstorms cover most of Oklahoma all the way through. Ahhh, those were the good old days when spring storms packed a punch here in DFW. Very windy and downright chilly this morning. Back to cold Tuesday morning.

Cold front just blew through here. Just before 6am. Line of storms coming. My thermometer showed 72, now showing 68 at 6:04 and dropping steadily, 4 degrees in 4 minutes! :flag: :cold:

Ah yes, cool crisp air! 45F withy gusty north winds and a wind chill in the 30s. Nws FW mentioned cold snap is a one in 100 year event and that most vegetation will not have experienced this late. Bring out those sweaters and jackets for one last fling! Maybe we can get an early Oct freeze and have one of the shortest warm season stretch! I dream of 1903 my cold monger in me says.

Fyi: For April midway DFW has recorded a whopping 2 clear days, 5 partly cloudy (most of these were in the upper scale from 4-7 thus more cloudy than sun) and 6 cloudy days. The Pacific still rules the roost this time from the south, southwest.

:uarrow:
It is so wild how we get an air mass with origins in the YUKON Territory of NW Canada, this time of year! Granted it is modified, but strong enough to bring freezing temps.
