Brent it truely is amazing how this all came from a very weak system that made landfall hundreds of miles well south of the texas border , i think the mountainous terrain of mexico can also be to blame here as that moisture basically got forced to funnel north into central texas as it couldnt go over the mountains that make up most of central mexico

I mean it's an area that's been known for this before and then you throw in the middle of the night and a holiday weekend at the peak of the summer when it was probably overcrowded

Yeah it was a recipe for worst case scenario

Yeah I think it has already surpassed the toll of Harvey in Texas.

I never lived in the Hill Country, but my family would go there on vacation a lot. I loved always how blue and clear the water in the rivers are, such that you could see all the fish. It breaks my heart to see it in such a state. Some people might fault people for living there, but I've seen how beautiful it is there. So I can understand why people would live by these rivers.

Why do all the most beautiful places have to be prone to natural disasters?

Austin for a robust warning system multiple times in the past - only to get denied repeatedly - makes my stomach turn.

Interesting video, he specifically mentions a previous flood in the 80s and they installed a NOAA weather radio tower just for this very event that happened.

I hate to say it but I think people are really looking for political blame on a certain person or party it in this case. Seems to happen any time something tragic happens. That's what we've come too as a county.

Yeah this has been a crazy start to summer for sure. I mean we haven't even been close to 100 yet and there's no sign of it anytime soon. The GFS never even ends the active pattern. Tick tock ...

Yeah makes me wonder what peak season will bring because if we keep this weakness over us the Gulf is gonna be wide open eventually

It appears our region will be sandwiched in between two high pressure systems in medium range and as a result this active/unsettled pattern may very well continue for the next week or two before we finally see a shift to a drier pattern late July into August.

In the meantime, enjoy the "cooler" afternoons while dodging the mosquitos that are starting to look like house flies in the morning and at night.

txtwister78 I wouldnt mind drier weather for a change, problem is the models have consistently over done ridging this summer. I dont know why, but anytime they have shown some sort of big heat ridge really setting up over texas in the medium range, its ended up being more wetter and not as hot.

The models may be underestimating the effects of evaporation due to the widespread saturated soils.

This is horrific. That’s the only way to put it.

According to KSAT, as of today, this would be the 4th deadliest flood in Texas history.
