What an absolutely gorgeous and perfect day here! I couldn't have asked for better weather. Exterior Christmas lights going up today. No telling how much i'll be putting up just to stay outside! The Griswalds may have competition! (Nah, won't be that bad!) Image

Houston NWS is now going with 40˚ for a low Tuesday night as of the afternoon update. This is 1 degree warmer than the GFS MOS (39˚) and 4 degrees warmer than the operational GFS (36˚). The NWS will likely have to lower the number back into the mid to upper 30s range for tomorrow's forecast updates.

The 00z GFS MOS now depicts a low of 37˚ at IAH next Tuesday morning, and the 00z ETA MOS and NGM MOS are identical. Considering this, I think the NWS will have no other choice but to lower our forecasted low temperatures for Monday night in their next update.

The 18z GFS and the 18z GFS MOS have both trended cooler. The latest numbers from each look like this...

18z operational GFS = 34 degrees

18z GFS MOS = 36 degrees

Do not be surprised to see the NWS lower their currently forecasted 38 degrees in their next update.

...FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 8 AM CST
TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HOUSTON/GALVESTON HAS ISSUED A
FREEZE WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 8 AM
CST TUESDAY.

CLEAR SKIES...LIGHT WINDS AND A DRY AIRMASS WILL LEAD TO IDEAL
COOLING CONDITIONS TONIGHT AS SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE MOVES INTO THE
AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL QUICKLY FALL AFTER SUNSET AND BOTTOM OUT
IN THE UPPER 20S NEAR LAKE LIVINGSTON TO JUST NEAR FREEZING ALONG
THE FREEZING LINE ITSELF WHICH SHOULD STRETCH FROM ROUGHLY WHARTON
TO KATY TO KINGWOOD TO LIBERTY. TIMES BELOW FREEZING WILL RANGE
FROM 3 TO 5 HOURS ACROSS AREAS AROUND LAKE LIVINGSTON TO JUST AN
HOUR OR TWO FURTHER SOUTH NEAR THE FREEZE LINE ITSELF. JUST EXPECT
NORTHERN AND WESTERN SUBURBS OF THE HOUSTON METRO AREA TO SEE ANY
FREEZING TEMPERATURES...AND SHORT LIVED AT THAT.

THIS WILL BE THE FIRST FREEZE OF THE SEASON FOR MANY LOCATIONS SO
A FEW REMINDERS ARE IN ORDER. RESIDENTS SHOULD PROTECT ANY
SENSITIVE OUTDOOR PLANTS. IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO BRING PETS
INSIDE FOR THE NIGHT...BUT IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE...MAKE SURE
THEY HAVE A WARM SHELTER TO STAY IN. CHECK ON THE ELDERLY AND
OTHER NEIGHBORS THAT MIGHT NEED SOME EXTRA HELP. BE ESPECIALLY
CAREFUL AND TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS IF USING SPACE HEATERS.
IF OUTDOORS...DRESS IN LAYERS. SINCE THIS WILL NOT BE A HARD
FREEZE AND THE DURATION OF FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL BE
SMALL...PIPES SHOULD NOT BE A MAJOR CONCERN.

Actually, it's coming out of my water hose at the moment!
Nothing like a little water to keep the vegetation green a while longer.

48º here just inside the beltway on the west side. Looks like about 1º-2º per hour drop so we could bottom out around 28º on the low end(though doubtful even this close into the urban heat core) or make 38º on the high end. Anyway you look at it for Houston, IT'S COLD!!!!!! :cold: :cold:

Now 45º here so it looks like we will be doing(trying to be conserevative and allow for surprises I don't/can't anticipate)an easy 30º here in Spring Branch. I'm starting to think outlying areas such as Cypress, Spring, etc. will easily see mid to upper 20's. :froze:
