Re: Texas Winter 2012-2013
Hmmmm......
From this mornings Houston-Galveston AFD:
THE ONLY MENTIONABLE
PRECIPITATION CHANCES WILL OCCUR LATE FRIDAY OR EARLY SATURDAY
ACROSS THE WESTERN CWA. A SHORTWAVE DISTURBANCE DIVING SOUTH ALONG
THE BACKSIDE OF NORTHEASTERN U.S. TROUGHING FRIDAY...IN LINE WITH
A REINFORCING COLD FRONT...WILL TRACK STRAIGHT DOWN INTO THE COASTAL
BEND. THERE MAY BE ENOUGH LIFT...WITH A MOIST ENOUGH DOWNSTREAM
ENVIRONMENT (AROUND 0.5 INCH PWATS)...TO INITIATE VERY LIGHT
PRECIPITATION (-SN) WITHIN A SUB-FREEZING AIR MASS. 1000-500MB
THICKNESS VALUES IN THE LOWER 530 DAMS ARE FORECAST TO REACH THE
MATAGORDA BAY REGION WITH FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY MORNING NEGATIVE
SINGLE DIGIT 85H TEMPERATURES. PWAT VALUES ARE NOT EXTREMELY HIGH
BUT WESTERN-SOUTHWESTERN FORECAST AREA SOUNDINGS DO SHOW DEEP
ENOUGH BELOW FREEZING MID-LEVEL SATURATION IN SUPPORTING VERY
LIGHT SNOW OR FLURRIES. THE MAIN QUESTION WILL BE WHETHER THERE
WILL BE ENOUGH LIFT FROM EITHER THE SHORTWAVE (VORT MAX)...OR FROM
FALLING INTO A MORE-FAVORABLE LF QUAD WITHIN A NORTH-SOUTH JET
SPEED MAX...IN GENERATING ANY PRECIPITATION AT ALL. ALTHOUGH
SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL BE SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING...FEEL THERE
COULD BE ENOUGH LOWER LEVEL ZERO WET-BULBING TO DRIVE THEM DOWN
TO NEAR FREEZING THROUGH MIDNIGHT SATURDAY.

I'm not holding my breath as far as snow in or near Houston Fri/Sat, nor about 80F+ temps in Houston anytime soon...

No 80-degree temps for you unless you bring numerous thunderstorms with it!

12z GFS splits the difference with having some slight moisture diving southeastward into the state but the temps look warmer over central/south central Texas.

I can feel it. Winter's last, dying breath blows across Texas over the next 3-4 days. After that, it's over. We can rejoice - spring is on its way!

I hope that by some miracle Spring stays cool, and it rains all Summer
Amistad reservoir is drying up
From the park service:
"
Shallow crossing at the mouth of the Pecos River
Boaters should use extreme caution when navigating thought the confluence of the Pecos and Rio Grand River a miscalculation could get you stuck on a muddy sand bar. Only small shallow-draft boats can pass thought this part of the river.
Boat Ramps at Southwinds Marina Boat Ramp and the Black Brush Boat Ramp are now closed
Both boat ramps at Black Brush and the boat ramp at Southwinds Marina are now closed because of the low lake level. The Diablo East Boat Ramp is still open."
http://www.nps.gov/amis/planyourvisit/upload/_2-4-2013-Amistad-resv.pdf
I know this is in the winter thread but things are beginning to look a little serious unless we start to get some substantial rainfall. I don't expect much spring bloomage around here.

Oh happy, happy, dance, dance!!! Holding my breath till I turn blue!!! NOT!!! If only I really felt it would happen. And if it does I'd have to drive to get to it on a day I have no time available. Oh well.

The Washington Post is falling for the 06Z GFS forecast of snow in Tampa:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/cap ... _blog.html
Should be a really nice spring break across Florida next week. Nice and freezing cold!

Uh-oh, look out Texas Panhandle! If my memory is correct, the Heat Miser said something like this a week or two ago.
And one 19-inch blizzard ago!

You know what blowing on a fire does right? Makes it burn hotter. Who's side are you on vbhoutex?

Unless you have a lot of wind and the fire blows out. I'm not sure we want that to happen either.

I said no more snow for Dallas/Ft. Worth about 2 weeks ago, not for the panhandle.

Never thought I'd have to go to Florida for my winter weather.

Yep. The panhandle is its own game.
Here, we have perpetual drought. Warm and dry, it never ends. It's almost like the Hotel California.

Great. Just great. This winter has exhausted me.

I'm throwing in the towel for winter with meteorological DJF coming to a close. Let the white flags rise above this north Texas branch of PWC. As promised I will pay up to wxman57 in some fashion.I would like to thank Portastorm for putting up another great thread even through the cynical nature of it this season but the few hopefuls were worth posting for. DFW had it's second magical Christmas in 4 years which I don't think will be seen again for a long time, as for most south of I-20 it was frustratingly painful to watch for you guys.
Here's to another great winter next season! Or maybe a few March specials! Time for this optimistic poster to dive into the enso thread and look for hope where it is wanted come spring and summer!
