Apparently all upper atmosphere layers must be pretty cold if it's snowing in Tyler and you haven't even reached freezing.

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps the storm will be bringing some bigger surprises than the models are anticipating!

It is in the north. 850 0c line is to the south of them, guidance did show this which is why it's dry up north on them vs south. It's deeper cold. Where the 850c 0c line is in SE Texas is the tricky part. Models do not drive the deeper cold fully through but we'll have to see the lower level cold is expected to outrun the upper levels to the south.

It can be seen on SPC meso analysis. Look at the difference between 850 and 925mb, under basic UA

Are these Winter Storm names officially sanctioned by the the National Weather Service? It just seems so corny to me. Do they have categories like Hurricanes and official landfalls?

850mb 0c line is roughly Tyler-Hillsboro-Junction line north of there is deeper cold evidenced by very low dewpoints

Quite a big batch of precip developing right smack dab in the middle of CTX right now! As none of it is currently over Temple (where I work), I cannot confirm what it is. However, based on my radar analysis, I believe it should be over me within 30 minutes & then I'll say what it is. Our temps are currently 37.

Edit: 36 now.

My Son and Sister-in-Law both called me and said it was snowing lightly in Longview.

There is a decent radar return just north of Waco and it looks to be moving east-north-east. There also seems to be lighter returns east of Abilene moving in the same direction.

The radar leads me to believe that 850 frontogenesis is now occurring in CTX.

Looks like a lot of the ISD's are going for a delay in school start time tomorrow instead of canceling.

Yeah returns just exploded over Waco in the past 20 minutes. Anyone in the Waco area able to report what's coming out of the sky? That moisture should reach my area in a couple hours so I'll be happy to report when it arrives here :D
