Good to see I am not the only one annoyed by that. I remember the days when the Weather channel would cover the storms instead of this crap.

WXman57 said he thinks the storm is headed just east of north now which means those rain bands will be over the Nola area all night and into the morning. The wind gusts come with the squall lines on radar. Power crews can reset transformers between squall lines but they may have taken the whole grid down till conditions improve.

Based on a slowing forward speed and movement north (at 0 degrees) odds are the next 6 hours are going to be brutal for New Orleans and points north.

I don’t have the videos handy, but some dude strolled by Cantore with a beer in his hand, and earlier one of the linemen hanging out at the hotel ran out into Canal Street and started flexing behind him in his bright yellow gear

Back at my laptop and caught up with the past 2-3 hours of discussion, and also the national news. (ABC).
It was interesting watching the national news show the same clips we'd already been watching all afternoon, being able to recognize shots from various (unidentified) webcams. "Oh that's the surge cam in Grand Isle" "Oh that's Reed in Houma" "Oh that's Mark Sudduth's cam"... It just shows how incredible the real time reporting (often via remote cams) has become. Utterly amazing.

Still shocked at how long Ida maintained Cat 4 status and how she has stalled. I didn't realize any model had predicted this kind of scenario. I'd been thinking that one small saving grace is that she'd be moving at a pretty fast clip and spare many areas hours in the worst of the conditions. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Very sad for those who've been enduring such an afternoon of terrifying storm impact in SE Louisiana while I had the freedom to walk away from my laptop, swim for 30 minutes, enjoy dinner and some wine on my screen porch. It's really hard to believe that such a perfect summer evening in Charlotte can exist simultaneously with the suffering that's happening in LA and elsewhere on the Gulf Coast tonight.

Hope to spend the next 3-4 hours continuing to document what I can of the storm's impact. It's my way of staying connected and being able to pray for the affected areas. Nothing gets any easier as night falls. Praying all of you here that are directly in the impacted areas have safe shelter and strong support of your loved ones and neighbors tonight.

Many of us who are far away care tremendously about what you're going through and have been through some bad storms ourselves and pulled through with the help of many others.
