It's once again very windy!! Sustained winds of 20-30 G40 mph. It was calm just 20-30 minutes ago. Amazing!! As for tonight thru Wednesday morning, still looks very wet, esp. along the Olympics and north Cascades. A plume of moisture is currently stationary over southwest Washington/northwest Oregon. The baroclinic band off the coast is currently digging which may limit the amount of heavy rainfall. Once that plume of moisture in the south passes inland, we should have a break for the rest of tonight. But another plume is expected to come onshore around midmorning, particularly in the north sound. So places south of Tacoma may escape the majority of tomorrow fairly dry, besides a few passing showers. But places such as Bellingham will get inundated with rain all day. The entire baroclinic band moves into Vancouver Island all day Wednesday before the entire cold front finally moves through on Thursday, bringing another dose of heavy rain. Still shaping up to be an active week...to say the least!! Long-range GFS models show a moderate trough over the Pacific Northwest/Northern plains beginning January 29, but you can't trust anything that far out.

On the columns at the top it reads Pcpn 06 hrs-60 hrs, just follow it down to which day upto those hours you would like to look at.

Andy... thats quite a rain shadow around Everett.
We are at 3.05 inches of rain today. I see that right in the city of North Bend they are at 2.62 inches.
Either way... thats more rain than we have had total in the last month. By a long shot.
59.6 degrees and raining fairly hard right now. We are on the northern fringe of this latest band to the south.

Rain just pounding on the roof now.
Stepped outside and truly feels like a summer evening... with lots of rain.
I hate losing snow in the mountains... and I do not like river flooding. But there is something comforting about this warm rain.
I noticed that the grass along the freeways and driving through my neighborhood looked much greener today... everything looks refreshed after the cold weather.

TT...Are you sure your thermometer is accurate? 60 is beyond belief! Do you have two thermometers to verify your readings? I have 55 in Covington which is amazing enough. If you really have 60, that is flirting with all time record territory for the month of January.
As for my predictions of a coming cold spell. I am predicting from a purely climatological standpoint. That is when I'm at my best! It is nice to have some support from the GFS on it also. Once again it shows some high amp ridging off the coast by early Feb. Just how far offshore the ridge is will be crucial of course. The ensemble has been consistent on 150W.

It is now 58.8 degrees here but the high for the day was 60.6 degrees just last hour.
I took an old-fashion thermometer outside about two hours ago to verify and it is correct.
More amazing is the 3.10 inches of rain today. Even down in North Bend they have about 2.70 inches.
Although its 600 feet lower... this school site is only 3 miles away. Look at their high for the day...

If you look at the radar loop...

Follow I-90... I am located half-way between I-405 and the King County line at Snoqualmie Pass.
That yellow you see constantly sitting over us is torrential rain.
