Per Rob Perillo, KATC TV3 met on his facebook. Pooyie! You can wish for rain but that amount would be ridicoulous!

On this date in 1940 a slow moving hurricane produces 19.63" in 24 hours in Lafayette. A 24 hr rainfall record that stands to this day. Two day total in Lafayette was 29.65". More than 30" fell in portions of Acadiana with 33.71" in 48 hours reported in Crowley/Acadia Parish and 31.66" in Abbeville/Vermilion Parish.

CLIMATE...
THE TEMPERATURE HIT 100 DEGREES AT IAH THIS AFTERNOON. THIS IS THE
EIGHT CONSECUTIVE DAY WITH THE TEMPERATURE REACHING OR EXCEEDING 100
DEGREES. THIS TIES FOR THE 4TH LONGEST SUCH STREAK IN CITY HISTORY.

14 DAYS 7/19/1980
11 DAYS 8/05/1998
9 DAYS 7/03/1980
8 DAYS 8/08/2011
8 DAYS 9/05/2000
8 DAYS 8/21/1993
8 DAYS 8/14/1962

It's looking like we are going to beat all of these if the predictions for 100f or above for at least the next 5 days are correct. Local weatherbug site hit 101f and here at the house we hit 101.8f. Look out 1980! Here we come!! :onfire: :firedevil: :Bcool:

101f at the Weatherbug site, 102.6f here at the house, and 102f official today. No relief in sight either.

Well Eric Berger in the Houston Chronicle this morning thinks we will beat the 1998 record, but is not sure about the 1980 record. At this point, does it matter anymore? Sheesh.

And Jeff is just full of good news today:
The streak continues on of 100 degree days with IAH reaching 102 yesterday making it the 9th straight day of 100 or higher for the city of Houston. The record is 14 straight days set in 1980.

Should be even hotter today and the heat advisory is extended to Thursday evening. The advisory will not be dropped until afternoon heat index values fall below 105 degrees. With the upper ridge centered just west of the area this morning expecting temperatures to be 1-2 degrees warmer this afternoon than yesterday pushing the highs into the 102-105 range. Record today is 104 and this could be approached.

Upper highs slides westward again starting Thursday evening and this should result in slightly lower afternoon highs going into the weekend with Saturday possibly being the coolest day with highs in the upper 90’s to near 100. If we do not reach 100 on Saturday we would not break the record streak of consecutive 100 degree days in 1980.

With the upper ridge shifting slightly to the west this does open the door for potential disturbances to approach the area from the northeast late Friday into Saturday. Still not overly excited about any real rain chances, but may need to add in a 20% Friday and Saturday especially east of I-45. Given the horrible state of the current drought conditions we will take anything we can get at this point.

Fire Weather:

Winds remain strong for August standards with low pressure to the north and high pressure to the east producing a fairly tight pressure gradient. Ground fuels are dead or dying and extremely dry and afternoon RH is falling into the 35-45% range. Winds during peak heating and low RH are gusting to or above 20mph, so dangerous fire weather conditions once again exist across the region. 248 out of 251 Texas counties are currently under burn bans.

I am beginning to get a bit encouraged:

At least the entire state is not white as it was the beginning of the week.

You knew this was coming...

HOUSTON – Mayor Annise Parker plans to issue mandatory water restrictions within the next week, her office confirmed Wednesday.

The dry conditions have been causing the city to pump a record amount of water this summer.

We've been on water restrictions every year for at least the past 5 years. It automatically goes into effect on May 1 and ends September 30. I can't believe that Houston is just now issuing restrictions.

I've been quite surprised it hasn't happened till now. I saw one dude on the tv today that said he had been watering his yard every day till just recently and was now just doing it a few times a week. I wish I could afford to water like that!! I water 1 time a week at the most.
We continued our 100f+ streak today with 103.6f here at the house and 102f at the weatherbug site nearest to me. I think the official high was 102f also, but I am not sure. We'll beat the 1998 record tomorrow and I will not be surprised if we beat the 1980 continuous run this weekend even though some of the OCMs are saying we won't make 110f on Sunday.

The beat just goes on. Dallas cools off, we just keep roasting...

Another 100 degree day down in the books. Here are the updated 100 degree day totals (through Thursday 8/11) from sites around southeast Texas, as compared to the summer of 1980 and normal values. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/hgx

I have a feeling that this summer is already challenging 1980. This summer is both dry and hot. 1980 had a negative PDSI, but was not bad like this one. I did look at September to December 1980. It first reaches freezing on November 19, 1980. There was two snowfall in January and February 1981. They were only trace amounts and freezes came in winter of 1980-1981. The following summer of 1981 did not see any 100 degree days.

I am very surprised they let the heat advisory expire. They may have to reissue it in the morning when the temps start going up. And yes we are at a minimum rivaling 1980 and honestly I am not going to be surprised if we surpass it before all is said and done. It was 103.6f here at the house today with the weatherbug site at 102. I'm not sure what the official was today, but I think it was 101f.
