This is also the best timed Recon flight mission I think we can ever had asked for. They are literally right in Patricia as she is attaining her peak intensity at this time. Kudos to the Hurricane Hunters for escalating their schedule to be in sampling the storm during what is now a very historic mission we are all witnessing this early morning 10/23/15. this ranks right up there with Wilma for me as the most fascinating Recon mission I have observed .

I'm always skeptical of readings that high but I make exceptions for tiny storms that are explosively deepening like this. If this were making landfall right now we would likely be getting photographic proof of whether winds that strong could sandblast the bodies of the Keys residents.

Based on wind speed recorded this may now hold the world record

Patricia is closing in on Wilma's pressure record! Can she do it. It is going to be close folks.

Very close to Wilma's intensity now. She's likely peaking and will begin to weaken after this point but it'll be an extremely dangerous storm no matter how you slice it.

If that wind speed and pressure are confirmed, this storm will be stronger than Haiyan though that didn't have recon...

Second strongest storm in the western hemisphere on record. Absolutely beyond belief.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

They're west of the storm headed south, it would seem wasteful not to do one more as they head back.

They've been doing 3. Likely an immediate turn around to come in from the NW, then turn to the E in the eye, if they can.

Also, saw they did a sonde in the eyewall. If it was inbound, I could imagine the 40 knots is due to them trying to reload the tube and launch in about a 30 second window, with a lot of bumps! Difficult at best!
