Latest vortex fix shows center has relocated further SW of NHC 5am position and forecast track. The center will have turn NE from where it is to miss the Outer Banks now:

Gabrielle was never forecast to become a hurricane, or even close to one for that matter.

A pretty strong storm is going to go through the OBX this afternoon, I wouldn't let my guard down if I were you!

Mark started a thread last night, or early this morning... for those who may not have seen the thread, here is his post...

I thought I would post a new thread on this topic. Jesse Bass and I have set up a 10-meter wind tower with a web cam at Hatteras at the US Coast Guard there. It is awesome. Check it out here:

http://www.hurricanelivenet.com/wind

Be sure to click on the wind data arhive to see the wind over the course of the day from now through tomorrow.

I forgot to put the rain bucket in the trailer- so no rain data

But, we have excellent, reliable wind data along with pressure, temp, dewpoint and humidity.

It took a while to get stuff set up since it was dark and we were dodging rain. Glad we can contribute to the science some and not just be out here farting around in the wind and rain....hopefully we can perfect our methods and really nab some great data in the future.

Storms in NC, not just visible, but even water vapor supports Gabby's movement to the North. Sure looks like it will clip you all on the coast. Stay safe.

yes it is good obserwation that it can also stand for a whole day in the same place .

reson for this that it can move to the SW is obserwation of this loop

http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis ... ge_14km_wv

But I cant be sure about this becouse visible obserwation of clouds near the center are that clouds are moving definitly north

so it is posible the reason why it stand in the same place all the time

Latest:

It seems now the shear is coming from the north as most of the convection is displaced to the south of the circulation. Yesterday it was to the north.

Gabrielle was never forecast to become a hurricane, or even close to one for that matter.

Everyone said oh-my-god hurriGabby will hit NC as a hurricane on Tue/Wed even before it formed...

First advisory from NHC forecasted nowhere near hurricane strength, in fact they appear to have been right on, near 45-50 kts at landfall:
