If single digits do actually occur in northwest Florida early next week, I will be more than impressed. Those forecasted lows are absolutely insane for that far south!..even for an area that is considered a typical "cold pocket".

wunderground reporting station here in N. Palm Beach county (Palm Beach Gardens) got down to 37, which is amazing given that the cloud cover did not break until almost daybreak

High/low registering thermister thermometer on back porch logged a 42.3 degree low last night. Not too bad. I've seen 33* as our lowest low once. Sun is warming up the deck at 54* right now under clear sunny skies. Cold, dry chill to air. Shade temperature 49*. Greenland block is forcing Canadian airmass down and around it through eastern US and down over Florida.

Wow, the dewpoints in Florida this afternoon are extremely low. I haven't seen this dry of an airmass across the state in a long time. Check out the latest readings...

Tallahassee - 6F dewpoint
Jacksonville - 8F dewpoint
Sanford - 10F dewpoint
Tampa - 25F dewpoint (a relatively moist spot)
Orlando - 9F dewpoint
Melbourne - 12F dewpoint
Fort Lauderdale - 23F dewpoint
Miami - 23F dewpoint
Key West - 44F dewpoint

Floridians need to consider themselves lucky. If perfect radiational cooling were expected for tonight (which it is not), then there could have been a very serious freeze (5 to 8+ degrees colder than the current forecast) all the way into south Florida.

Got down to 38 officially at PIE, with a dew point as low as 17. Its the Dew Point that really surprises me.

Yeah I was looking at NWS Miami at some point forecasts for Palm Beach County and saw that. That 28F in West palm is forecasted all the way to near the coast near Cloud Lake believe it or not. Heck even Palm Beach Island which very rarely sees freezing temperatures appears to be headed to 30F for tomorrow night:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... it=0&lg=en

That is pretty darn amazing and certainly has the potential to kill some sensitive vegetation across much of Palm Beach down into Broward county if this really verifies. Wow is all I have to say. I am hoping that does not verify.

On a side note the word "snow" has been mentioned in the NWS Tampa forecast albeit it's not expected to snow but still....

THERE IS SOME CHANCE THAT WE WILL SEE SOME LIGHT PRECIPITATION
RIGHT ALONG THE COAST AS THESE CLOUDS MOVE IN FROM THE GULF.
CURRENT FORECAST SOUNDINGS DO NOT SUPPORT SNOW...SO JUST A FEW
SPRINKLES IF ANYTHING AT ALL

in addition to being miserable, this cold weather could have considerable economic implications for our state when we consider agriculture, tropical fish farms, tourism (northerners can freeze their collective arses up north for alot less) and the like. not to mention our beautiful tropical plants (lots of bucks and sweat spent by homeowners and businesses that could be wiped out by one night that's just a bit too cold). we are really walking the wire here. Finally, consider the plight of wildlife. i remember snook kills in jan 2003 after that brutal cold snap. a similar event is possible, if not probable as a result of this long duration cold event pushing water temps to critical levels. let's hope some meteorlogical sanity returns... soon.

I guess I'll will post on this thread as well.

Lucked out again last night due to the cloud cover with weak disturbance passing through, temps mostly in the mid to upper 30s across central FL with low 30s in the usual colder spots and low 40s in the usual warmer spots, Ensemble MOS were right.
Tonight, is a coin toss, operational MOS has us down to the mid 20s while the Ensemble MOS unanimously has KMCO only down to 31, winds will stay up, so this could be a reason why not to see the mid 20s, but with clear skies and very cold arctic air coming down 20s is not out of the question, at least in the suburbs.
Will update tonight when I see how fast temps are falling in actuality versus the forecast.

It looks like today might be another one where Orlando struggles to and perhaps fails to reach 50F. As of 11:30am, temperatures in that region (based on wxunderground stations) are still holding near 40F. If the high temperature does in fact stay below 50F in Orlando today, that will be the second time in three days that it has done so. A truly impressive and very rare occurrence.

48* last night, a touch warmer. I think a reinforcing front has just passed through. It went from 54* to 52*. Overcast, chilly wind from NNW.

Current temperature Grand Cayman: 77*

PBI topped out at 55 degrees and has started to retreat (54 degrees as of 4pm). Any takers on whether PBI makes its forecasted low of 31?
