In less than 24 hours models have went from a pretty strong trough with focused energy kicking out over western Texas to a weaker more progressive trough with energy spread out. Doesn't help that the ensembles have trended the same way as well. Kinda impressed how much it's flipped from a pretty good QPF event to maybe nothing here.

Still a Niña background state. The fact esp you NTX/Ok got the snow and sleet you had last week was a pretty big deal.

Nina's can and do produce big time storms, especially for Oklahoma and Kansas. Some of our biggest snow events came from the 2008 and 2011 Nina events. Additionally, we're in Phase 2/3 of the MJO, which is still a favorable phase for us (and a signal for severe weather in the SE) if we were in 4,5,6 I wouldn't have believed the models at all, but since that's not the case, the change for at least a good rain event was very real.

Had flurries here in Frisco. Didn’t see them because I was asleep. My wife saw it and she usually doesn’t notice snow until it’s coming down pretty good.

Freezing level is not far above the ground there, so it's falling as snow.

Snowed enough to make ground somewhat white and make elevated surfaces slushy. Temps was 35 during main band which lasted an hour or so.

Just called in my report of a wintry mix of sleet, snowflakes, and rain to the NWS! The ProMet on duty shared they've even had some THUNDER reports mixed in with the wintery fun!

Long range forecasting is such a difficult thing to do. No brutal cold air in the US right now but not torch. The next 1 to 1.5 weeks kind of brings back a little ridging in the Chukchi and Barents. Not full blast cross polar flow but enough to send a chunk into the carving trof in the southwest.

Okay, you snow-loving cold mongerers, I'm back! Your winter is most likely over. Better start looking out for tornadoes instead of snow next week in Tulsa, Brent. Same for all of you in NE Texas. Could be a big severe weather outbreak. The only good thing is that the event will occur between sunrise and noon, too early for any help from daytime heating. Areas farther east and southeast won't be as lucky.

Oh Man. My daughter missed out on last week‘s Dallas snowstorm cause she was at A&M. Now she came home this weekend and missed the flurries this morning because she was asleep. Now I find out there’s a snowstorm in College Station.

Hearing there are huge flakes.

HRRR actually had this narrow band pretty well outlined yesterday (especially showing up near the college station region) so while not too surprised, it's nice to see it produce more than just some light sleet and a few flurries (DFW region) for our friends further south today. While I wouldn't use "storm" by any means to describe this (technically speaking of course), it's definitely an event anytime you can get snow (and some big flakes) to fall down into the Brazos Valley in the mid to late afternoon with surface temps in the low 50's just to the southwest with the sun out. Pretty cool.

I will say the Houston NWS twitter feed is like...."snow falling where today"...uhhh??? Lol.
