Since we're on the topic of cold, I'm reading "Barbarossa" now about the German invasion of USSR in 1941. Imagine -30F (real temp) on the wide open Russian steppes with a 40 mph wind in a blizzard, and nothing but your trenchcoat!! Today made me think of that. Wow that must've been miserable. That Russian winter of 41-42 was recorded at the time as the worst in 140 years.

If there was ever any doubt - and I don't think that there was or is - then I'd say that this current storm/Arctic airmass qualifies for the "SEVERE" category.

Anyone been watching the water vapor loop over the east pacific into Mexico..?
Looking at the STJ down in mexico and very far south Texas and it's moving north with every frame..???? That SW USA trough is starting to pull on it?..
High level moisture... Mid level moisture and the gulf should be open for bizz by thursday morning???

Thank God the Nazis got entrenched in that. If not for the Russian winter, the end result of the war may have been far different. I firmly believe weather determined the outcome of Barbarossa, and ultimately lead to the Red Army vanquishing Berlin.

Heard earlier tonight that I-44 is shut down from Springfield, Mo. to Tulsa and down towards OKC.
Also heard that officials (I think National Guard) are rescuing stranded motorists on roadways in NE Oklahoma.

Well at 54 it has a little bit of snow just northeast of Houston. About a dusting to 1-2 along the LA border. Just one run, wait until the other guidance comes in.

temps are falling fast wow..... Pool pump is running, already ice forming on left over water from this morning. I keep hearing everyone met worried that some areas could get 1-2" per hour squalls of snow from a meso scale band. I think it will surprise many of us.
Also, a local professional met said that "SE Texas is in for a major winter storm"

I don't know how accurate they are but the Weatherbug station at my daughter's middle school here in Georgetown is already reading 18.8 at 8:30pm. Our low is supposed to be 16. Think I'll take the under on that one. I guess I need to get around to getting my own weather station for the house.
