Yes it is a big deal

#561 Postby oceanguync » Tue Sep 13, 2005 9:30 pm

That was a cruel comment--sitting here on the coast of nc and facing a hurricane that is dropping in pressure--YES it is a big deal!!!!!!

Well yes, hurricanes can be a big deal even at Cat 1, but it won't be that bad. Theres no significant pressure drop so it looks like 80-85 mph will be landfall intensity. Its the flooding that might be a problem.

Katrina caused a lot of problems in South Florida and it was "only" a strengthening Category 1...

People,

When anyone makes comments like Scorpion did, the best advice, in my opinion, is to ignore them. Yes, I would be offended too, but some people are insensitive about *just* a C1 hurricane. Never take even one of those lightly (and I've never even experienced a hurricane).

There is more I wanted to say, but it would probably get me banned.

Always take them seriously. I've been through at least 12 hurricanes that I can remember, a couple more that I can't because I was too young. Each one is different and none of them has ever completely done what was expected. Take Bertha for instance. I went to bed the night before it hit with everyone saying it was going into Charleston as a tropical storm. I woke up the next morning to find it hitting just south of me with much stronger winds. Isabell, even in her weakened state of a cat 2, managed to put a massive storm surge across the Eastern half of the county I was in, we're talking NOLA type flooding just on a smaller scale. Lots of people lost their homes and guess what, FEMA never even dropped by to offer aid. So yes, always take them seriously. In things like this, its better to be over cautious and prepare then to get caught off guard in a situation you can't control.

PS, sorry I know this stuff shouldn't even be in this thread since its a recon thread. Would be more then happy to move it elsewhere.
