Think its just the eyewall expanding and deepening, may be wrong though

Far enough to live through it without too much inconvenience? Yes, barring a car accident getting there or a stray tornado or that kind of thing. You might lose power if a tree falls nearby, but at a hotel they may have a generator anyway.

Similarly, the Bahamian government has evacuated most of the inhabitants of the southern Bahamas (most importantly, Inagua) to Nassau.

well radar is definitely showing a 3/4 outer eyewall already. lets see if it closes off.

So... the squashed appearance on the western side is starting to go away and the storm is starting to look frightfully symmetrical again. I can hardly fathom it looking more intense than it does, but it's been full of surprises so far.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Looks like the pressure is continuing to fall based on the live recon data. SFMR registered 151kt unflagged in the SE quadrant....

Lots of lightning in the inner core of Irma.

It's almost as if Irma were willfully trying to take a path through the Northern Leewards / Virgin Islands to hit the most islands. A few miles to the north and she could have missed a direct hit on any, but Barbuda, St. Barts, St. Maarten, Anguilla, Virgin Gorda... all very much direct hits. Terrible.

Even if an EWRC is starting, there's no reason to think it won't just do what previous ones have done with this storm - that is, finish so quickly it doesn't affect the intensity. There's still so much we don't know about EWRC. Perhaps in a storm where the structure and conditions are this good, they complete "perfect" EWRCs, as there is nothing structurally wrong with it to stop it from completing quickly?
