GFS has a landfall near Surfside Beach in a little over a week in Fantasicane Land.

For some reason I can't see the image I'm trying to show, unless you all see it on your end(?). Anyway, aside from that, so much for predictions of short-lived high pressure and H pressure peripheral storms with back door fronts like we had in July. Too good to be true in early August. Easier predicting hot and dry.

Unfortunately it could be September. Even if we get a front this month for a day or two it's just gonna get hot again unfortunately

The gfs is again hinting at another Gulf storm next weekend but like yeah it's gonna be hard to break this pattern for a few weeks probably

I saw that run which is why I was asking about our high pressure...I was thinking high pressure="protection" from tropical trouble.

I don't think high pressure over Texas can be trusted to sit over us all season. The consistent pattern this summer has featured troughing over the Plains with ridging mainly over the western US. I wouldn't be surprised to see a return to that pattern again. Also, a lot were very certain Beryl posed no threat to the Houston area due to the "death ridge", but we saw how that turned out. This year is not even close to last year in terms of the pattern. This year's pattern is giving me a lot of 2020 and 2017 vibes.

Yeah I mean as much as it seems bad and hopeless right now this is nothing compared to last year. We had heat indexes near 130 last year... I don't think we've been any higher than around 115 this year. I mean yes it still sucks but it's been much closer to a normal summer

Also we had a high near 80 about three weeks ago one day and a good stretch below normal. That's almost unheard of for lately

This is a cool summer compared to last summer for sure, only 10 days of 100+ heat compared to last summer at this time we had 29 days. The coolest day of the first 13 days of Aug last summer was 103, and we had that 7 day streak 105+ temps.

I think NTX will stay below the forecasted highs, as both Sunday and Monday only made it to 97 with both days forecast high of 100. :ggreen:

Not very encouraging down here. To be expected. Tomasco said the loan we had in July is getting paid back in August.

By Wednesday, model
consensus shows the H5 ridge axis closer to Central TX and the low
to mid level thermal ridge being much more influential over Central
TX. This will likely push our temperatures and heat indices into
Heat Advisory criteria, and that trend is expected to continue well
beyond the short-term period
.|

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Monday)
Issued at 139 AM CDT Tue Aug 6 2024

The Subtropical High will strengthen its grip on South Central Texas
mid to late this week, with Thursday and Friday looking like down-
right scorchers
. Temperatures should climb to the 100-108 range with
heat indices settling around 105-110. Heat Advisories will likely be
needed based off of air temperatures alone on Thursday and Friday,
primarily for locations outside of the Hill Country and Southern
Edwards Plateau. By the weekend, things don`t look much better and
in fact, we`re likely stuck in the triple digits through the
remainder of the long term period, so sit tight, buckle up and
prepare for the hottest time of the year in the region
.

It hasn't been too bad here down in Galveston County. We haven't hit 100 degrees yet this year but Thursday and Friday will be a close call. Either way this summer has been much better than last summer.

If it's 90F or hotter, it's hot to me whether it's humid or dry, so it's just semantic now. The bigger headline is the lack of precipitation over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully the heat wave doesn't extend too far into September without any kind of relief - or I'll have to fire up my sprinklers after all. Still much better than previous years.

Huge NW Canada blocking going on. Big front in middle parts of the country. Question for us down here is, can it make it down into TX.

Never heard of anything like that before. That’s nuts. I had a heat index of 117 today. Hottest day of the year down here.

Were gonna be close to a record low max tomorrow here if we stay in the 70s. Wednesday was our hottest day of the year ahead of it

I mean at least we got a break from the heat but still they were hyping rain and I'm not doing last winter again

Looking like the dog days are settling in for the next 2 weeks. Any hope in the long range for a pattern change?
