Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
It's a very close call. Perhaps they should err on the side of caution but with the cooling process likely to slow or reverse it's debatable as if we will have icy bridges and roads. Safety aside and strictly from a weather enthusiast stand point. Consider me "underwhelmed" In Houston.

I think a lot of Houston drivers are going to regret going-in earlier this morning.
Yeah, so much for the "bust" talk. Y'all are probably going to get one nasty ice storm. Be safe!
Yeah, all those that were screaming bust are awfully quiet now.

Good luck!!
Do you have any way to tell me what the ensembles say for snow today in Baton Rouge?
51 for 51! With the Ensemble Mean being around 2''.

Thanks! 51 for 51 sounds like really good odds!

Tim Heller too right? Didn't he keep saying bust yesterday? I thought I saw a couple-3 posts about him.

Looking at the radar, it certainly does not look like that will happen.. Unless all of that rain just fizzles out before moving further south.
Like i said, amateur hour. Check this out.

I get really ticked off with the ISD's and their extremely conservative attitude towards winter weather. The Rockwall ISD is horrible about this. Seeing that picture of a bus that has slid off the road, endangering children's lives and others is completely irresponsible. You can add a day in May/June if one or two days is going to be a big deal for you.

It's certainly a dangerous game when counting on that to keep roads from icing. It more than likely will warm up a little bit to keep the bridges from icing, but all it takes is a few degrees difference and lots of commuters have a treacherous drive. I don't envy anyone who has to make that forecast.

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
I've been under that pink/blue on the radar for hours now, and very little if any has hit the ground since 7am. Most of it is evaporating before hitting the ground.
I have a trace of snow, but it hasn't accumulated further since I woke up this morning, and in fact looks to be slowly disappearing.
Still debating whether to do my 40 mile commute into the northern suburbs of Houston, roads look good now, but in a few hours that could be very different as I don't know the conditions south of me.

I'm looking for some input from you savvy weather folks regarding;
1. The disturbance presently riding out of New Mexico.
2. The impressively organized low pressure system presently in Mexico.
Specifically, I would like to know, based on observations, if my area (central texas) should expect any more surprises for later today or tonight. I'm hopelessly optimistic that a SNOW event looms, however I will behave like a big boy if the outlook is contrary to my wishes....
Anyone?

I am neither a professional meteorologist nor an amateur meteorologist. Please do not consider any of my posts to be a forecast of anything. Anything I post that is remotely forward looking should be considered speculation at best.
