Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
Cloudy. Rain looks "closer" than it's been in a month, but still nothing doing. Lot of rain further west near the Dade/Monroe line, but I don't see any of that making its way over here, nor does it look like any outflow boundaries are migrating east.

I feel for ya'll that aren't getting any rain. That is usually my complaint. We've been very lucky the last couple of days and have had some decent rain. I'm almost wishing for a little sunshine today.

Some tantalizing rumbles of thunder and welcome cloud cover but still - NO rain for days!!! It's GOT to rain eventually.

Even today! Clouds around all day long, and only a very brief moderate shower.
I swear, I think I live in the least-rainy neighborhood in all of South Florida.

They were forcasting 70% for today last night and now this morning they are down to 50%. we havent had rain here in East Boca Raton for weeks now.
I was driving through East Boca Raton and noticed how dry it was there. Seems like it has been missing the rain. Of course the main reason is because the past few weeks has featured a strong subtropical ridge anchored NE of the area bringing in an Easterly windflow. The regime has kept most of the big-time storms west of the South florida metro areas and mostly over the west side of Florida as Gulf seabreeze has been pinned close to the coast while the Atlantic seabreeze has pushed far inland. Now over the past few days, the ridge has finally broken down some as a cold front has sagged south. So storm motion has been much slower and storms have not moved as far west as they have been the past few weeks. But now in this regime, the only way to get alot of rain is if a storm decides to build right over on top of you due to the lack of movement. The best chance of heavy storms/rain for S. Florida for this time of year (outside of a rain from a tropical system) is when a SW windflow develops at the lower and middle layers ot the atmosphere which brings in the storms inland and pushes them eastward to the coast. That setup was present in the first part of June but has not been back since. With this easterly windflow also comes very warm nocturnal temperatures with most locations near the coast not getting below 80F each night for the past few weeks.

I know exactly which cell you're talking about. There was a remark on NWSChat about tipping bucket undercatching in reference to it - it may have been even a little more than 2.5"dizzyfish wrote:Yikes - we got hammered by a storm this afternoon. 2-1/2" in about 45 mins.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Wet!!!
Wow, some heavy rain, frequent lightning and strong wind near the South Dade coast right now, FINALLY!
Funny, POPS were low today per the NWS at 10%.....but I knew that if something could get going and break that cap today, the storms could approach severe. Had some strong winds just now.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Wet!!!
I'm hearing unofficial reports that temps got as high as 103 in the western Dade suburbs today.

Today was godawful. If I wanted to live in Yuma, AZ, I'd be living there. I HATE when there's mid-upper 90s with no rain. Weird that the cap broke yesterday, but not today.

I feel ripped off. In the dead center of a severe t-storm warning this afternoon, end up with nothing. I was nervous already because it looked like NWS had the motion off a bit, and we'd be more clipped by the western flank than get hit . . . then a mile or two north of us, the western half of the storm falls apart and rebuilds a mile to the south of us. Not a single drop of rain, and just a couple lightning flashes to show for it
More storms going up in Gadsden County, maybe we'll get another shot at it.

Got a nice show yesterday evening as a couple cells merged and more or less sat right over my place for 90ish minutes. A ton of lightning, and some wind. No damage that I saw, but lost power for more than an hour. Looks like the precip estimate for where I live was about 2". The ASOS at the airport across town got a total of 0.18"
