Indeed, Dr. Masters did mention that in his August 13th blog. But he also said he wasn't sure if the pattern would last a few days or a few months. The latest ensembles at 500 mb show troughiness over the central U.S. and a ridge building strong off the East Coast. Seems like such a pattern would place the central and eastern Gulf at more risk than Texas. Unofficially, that is. :wink:

Not officially over until the fat lady sings, but check out 500 mb heights and winds through 2 weeks from todays 12Z GFS. Mostly from the West, turns Northeast a few times, but never shows the flow from ESE to S that would suggest a significant system off the Gulf.
