Things are happening fast. I have a surface feature at 21N-75.5W. Direction looks to be west and into Cuba if it doesn't pull-up...

They need to find a circulation first. A dominant one.

The winds could just be thunderstorm related.

They have, looking at the obs of wind direction as they approached and their positions a circulation is evident, it seems to be broad but there nonetheless. You maybe meaning that they need to pinpoint the exact center, this they will do as they fly back and forth sampling pressures and wind directions.

The wind obs definitely show a circulation.

I only suggested a TS. Just to make that clear.

Winds at 38 mph...

Well... Unfortunately, that's 1 mph short. That would be mildly irritating, wouldn't it?

Those are flight level winds, not surface winds. Surface winds would be less, as max winds in a tropical system are typically near the 1500 ft flight level and decrease downward from there.

Oh goodness, duh. Can't believe that slipped my mind, thanks for correcting me!

You are right and I forgot that, so we should have a TD anyway by what we see on Visible and what Recon is reporting.
