Actually, activist groupsHAVE tried to change things in the Maricopa County Jail (the green Bologna, pink underware for male inmates, tent compounds, and chain gangs) but have not been successful in Court as the AZ Court system is much less inmate friendly than the Federal Court system-especially the 9th Circus Court.

If she thought life would be brutal in a nice indoor jail cell in L.A., in a tent in PHX in June can be brutal as air temperatures frequently reach the 110+ mark. They have fans to stir the air in the tents to keep the temperatures there down below 140F. BTW, no pretty orange jumpuits for Sheriif Joe's inmates-they all wear baggy black and white striped jail suits with pink underwear (the men too). If she's lucky, she gets a bunk bed in the tent-if not it's a cot. No TV either. Plenty of recreation though as prisoners are expected to work during the day. Sheriff Joe's philosophy is to make the experience so bad that no one wants to return to his jail.

the funny thing is that tent city is also home for lots of folks who are awaiting trial and havent even been convicted of anything yet. if it's good enough for them, it should be good enough for her. but we all know it will never happen. wishful thinking can be fun though! i think they ought to make her a Walmart greeter for 45 days, and she's only allowed to wear what they sell at Walmart. That should cut her down to size.
